Looking back on last week and what's coming up in the week ahead

Welcome to our latest weekly instalment of Pewit Weekly where we round up the results and news from around the club. What a week it's been!

FIRST TEAM
Last week… Emley travelled to North Nottinghamshire for the last of three league away trips on Saturday to face Sherwood Colliery who were looking to maintain their perfect start to the season. The Pewits had other ideas, however, and deservedly secured their first league win of the season against the early front runners with three goals from George Doyle (2) and Ryan John.

This week… The first team welcome Chadderton from across the Pennines to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for the FA Vase second qualifying round fixture on Saturday - this season's first Saturday match! Chadderton convincingly beat Athersley Rec 1-5 in the previous round to earn another trip to Yorkshire. Emley and Chadderton have met previously during Emley's one season stint in the North West Counties League, the FA Cup and in the FA Vase. Emley narrowly won in the league matches and, perhaps a good omen, the FA Vase meeting while the Pewits went down in the FA Cup tie.
Match preview will be available on our website later in the week

ACADEMY
Last week… The under 18s travelled to Horsfall Stadium for their FA Youth Cup first qualifying round tie against Bradford (Park Avenue). In a thoroughly entertaining match, the young Pewits dominated but the game ended drawn 2-2 after 90 minutes with two superb goals from Kobe Simpson and Keelan Grist for the Pewits. Going straight into penalties, Bradford's experience shone through with four excellent strikes and a diving save to deny Emley's hopes of progressing. By far the better side, Emley could have taken the game on another day with kinder bounces. They did the club proud!

This week...The under 23s start their West Riding FA Development League Premier Division campaign with a tasty away clash on Monday (tonight at 7:45pm) against Farsley Celtic, who the under 23s dumped out of the cup semi-final last season.

Meanwhile, the under 18s' attention turns to the Junior Premier League U18 Cup, in which they have got off to a winning start after a 1-4 win against Ossett. Their next group fixture is against UFCA Yellow on Saturday at SportsPark Weetwood in Leeds at 1pm.

CLUB NEWS
In case you missed it, our Emley Academy sponsor and a charity close to our hearts, The Samantha Sykes Foundation Trust, have the Butterfly Ball coming up to raise funds for the charity. The event includes a three course meal and entertainment. It will take place this year on Saturday 20th November at Leeds United’s Centenary Pavilion, Leeds.

We continue to look for willing volunteers to support and join us at the club, it’s hugely rewarding to get involved so please take a moment and think how you could help out. Even an hour here and there would make a massive difference.
Videographer - We are looking for someone to capture our home matches. We have had a volunteer come forward who is able to pick up the editing, but we are keen to find someone who can support with the recording.
Community Officer - The right volunteer will champion the club and help build and strengthen links with local grassroots clubs and other groups in the HD8 and surrounding areas. Find out more here

Volunteer needed for Saturday 25th September in our Dugout Diner. We would be very grateful for someone to support on our popular Dugout Diner and spend the afternoon working with our existing volunteers (2pm - 5pm). You could be taking orders or cooking food, this is a vital part of our match day offering at Emley AFC. We really need support on this date as a one off. We continue to look for regular support, please get in touch with Andrew Painten 07931 353515 if you think you can help or to find out more. Thank you.
