The Reds arrive from Cumbria as league points are at stake.

Emley play host to Workington on Tuesday night looking for points in the Northern Premier League-Premier Division (7.45pm).

Following a spell of cup action, Emley are back in league action for the first time since 12th September where a visit to Gigg Lane ended in a 4-0 defeat, since then, Emley have gone out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy after heavy defeats but did progress in the Sheffield and Hallamshire cup with a big win of our own.

The Pewits go into the game against the Reds 15th in the NPL Premier table, but haven't won since a 2-1 away at Leek Town in August, that win was the second in succession having beaten Curzon Ashton 5 days previously, since those wins, we have had 3 draws and 2 defeats.

Our visitors, Workington, are currently just outside the play off positions in 8th following a good run of form which saw them win 6 in a row, including an FA Cup win over Marske United, but like Emley, their FA Cup run also ended in a heavy defeat, 5-1 at Bury, but they did progress in the Trophy this weekend, seeing off Blyth Spartans 4-2.

This will the 8th meeting between the sides, there has only been one win each, the other 5 games were drawn, Workington won the first ever meeting back in 1989 and Emley, of course, beat Workington in our famous cup run in 1997, that was the last meeting as Emley, the last 2 meetings were as Wakefield-Emley in 2004-05.

WHO ARE THEY?
Workington AFC were founded in 1921, 10 years after the previous Workington club had folded, they initially played in the North Eastern league, where, remarkably, in 1934, they made it all the way to the FA Cup 4th round, losing narrowly, 2-1 to Preston North End. They also had famous cup runs in the 1950's, losing out 1-0 to Liverpool at Anfield in 1951 and then lost 3-1 to Manchester Utd, the game was just a month before the "Busby Babes' " Munich tragedy, a game which attracted their record crowd of 21,000.

They were admitted into the Football League in 1951 as replacements for New Brighton and were members for just over 25 years before they were voted out themselves in 1977 to be replaced by Wimbledon, despite finishing 5th in the 3rd Division (today's League 1), they struggled in their final 4 seasons in the FL, finishing either bottom or next to bottom, after demotion, they continued on in the NPL, and have flitted between steps 2-4 for most of the following seasons.

They twice reached the quarter finals of the League Cup in the 1960's losing to West Ham and Chelsea respectively and appeared in an FA Trophy quarter final in 2010 before losing to Stevenage.

Their home ground was Borough Park but they are currently groundsharing with the rugby league club at Derwent Park while a new stadium is built in the town.
