Emley are on the road and going West as we head to Warrington again for the 2nd time in just over a month, this time to face Warrington Rylands in the Northern Premier League-Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).
As thousands leave Warrington on Saturday afternoon in support of the towns rugby league clubs grand final appearance, Emley and their hardy bunch of travelling supporters will be heading to the Orford area for a first ever meeting with Rylands.
Emley went down to another league defeat on Tuesday, seeing Workington take all 3 points after a good first half which Emley couldn't maintain, it's now 3 straight losses in the league and 4 losses in our last 5 in all competitions as the small squad and the level of competition in this higher league takes hold.
Rylands on the other hand are in the play offs mix again, last season beaten finalists had a slow start to the season with only two wins in their opening 6 league fixtures, they've picked up slightly though and are unbeaten in their last 4 in the league and have won 4 out of their last 6 in all competitions as they sit 9th, outside the play offs on goal difference.
This is the first ever meeting between the sides and Emley's first visit to Gorsey Lane which is known as "The Quickline Logistics Stadium". Our previous visit to Warrington at the end of August saw a 2-2 with Warrington Town.
WHO ARE THEY?
Warrington Rylands 1906 FC to give them their full title were formed, as you probably guessed, in 1906 as Rylands FC, a works team for one of the many wire manufacturers of the town, which is nicknamed "Wire". They played in various local leagues until 1969 when they joined the Mid-Cheshire League, winning that league in 1980-81 and 83-84.
A merger and name change in 2008 saw them become Crosfields/Rylands but that only lasted 2 years. They were then taken over by Wayne Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford, who had massive ambitions for the club (Don't they all?) and set about trying to bankroll them into a football league club, they entered the world of semi-pro football for the first time in 2018 and won the NWCFL D1 South at the first attempt thus starting the Salford-esque rise up the leagues.
They took on their current name in 2020 and won the FA Vase in 2020-21, and were also champions of NPL D1 West and promoted to the NPL Premier, where their charge to the football league appears to have stalled for now.
They play at the "Quickline Logistics Stadium" at Rylands Recreation Club on Gorsey Lane in the East of the town.
