Miners, Millers and then the rest as pre season gets underway

Emley look to a busy pre season schedule as preparations for the 2026/27 Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign get underway with a high profile home against League 2 outfit Rotherham United at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground as well as 7 games away from home as The Pewits return to the NPL Premier after a quarter of a century!

First up is a trip to Garforth Town on Saturday 11th July, Garforth, like most of our opponents are well known to Richard Tracey and his staff, having gained promotion to NPL D1 East along side Emley, Emley have only won 2 of the previous 10 fixtures between the sides.

Then the Rotherham game which is on Tuesday the 14th July, the most famous meeting(s) between the clubs was the 1998/99 season when Emley held Rotherham to a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup 1st round at Barnsley's Oakwell ground, the replay saw Emley lose out 3-1 at Millmoor, the significance of the first game is that it saw the professional debut of a certain Richard Tracey for Rotherham who was up against his assistant Steve Nicholson who captained Emley that day! - Buy tickets and get all the latest information here

Friday the 17th July sees us travel across the South Yorkshire border to face our old rivals from the NCEL, Penistone Church before a visit to Horbury Town the following day, the only previous encounter with Horbury ended in a 0-0 draw in last season's friendly.

Then, a midweek trip to Liversedge on Tuesday the 21st, again, a familiar opponent in the last couple of seasons, as well as friendlies, we faced 'Sedge' twice in the NPL D1 East winning 1 and drawing 1 as Liversedge were relegated to the NCEL, they bounced back last year as champions though.

Saturday 25th July brings a trip to Seel Park to face Mossley of the NPL D1 West, we last met them in 2023 in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying round when they were in a higher league, a last minute Sam Pashley equaliser at Seel Park earned a replay, where Emley turned in a fabulous performance to run out 3-1 winners after extra time, Pashley scored in this one too along with Paul Walker and James Walshaw who is currently manager of Ossett United.

Which brings us nicely on to our next fixture, against Wally's Ossett at Ingfield on Tuesday the 28th July, Emley and Ossett are no strangers to each other having built up a firm rivalry since The Pewits' rise to the NPL, Emley certainly have had the better of the 4 games, winning 3 and drawing our last meeting which was in April.

We then round off our pre season campaign with a trip to Pontefract Collieries, scene of one our most dramatic games of last season's promotion campaign, Emley coming from 0-2 down to earn a point which ultimately kept us in the play offs and knocked Ponte out, this game is scheduled for Saturday 1st August.

The league campaign is due to start the week after on the 8th August.

Our full scheduled pre season is as follows;
