After 4 games on the road, Emley are back on home soil when they entertain Steeton in the NWCFL D1 North at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday (3pm)
On paper it should be a game Emley would expect to win, having already beaten bottom club Steeton 5-0 in November, but in this league nothing is certain and Emley will have to show the form that has seen them consolidate 2nd place and have lost only three in 20 league games going back to September, Steeton, despite sitting bottom but have had a couple of decent wins including a thumping 5-1 win over St Helens.
Emley are 2nd and looking to maintain their 2nd place as they head into a crucial part of the season, after last week's draw at an in form Prestwich Heys, Assistant manager Steve Nicholson was pleased with a point
"A solid, gutsy performance from the lads on a very heavy pitch which on another night could have led to us taking all three points, "Prestwich have been in good form recently and showed their intent with some good passing football and dangerous crosses with George pulling off a great save to keep the scoreline at 0-0.
"We grew into the game as the half went on and only some dogged defending from Prestwich kept Bordman and Eyles at bay through to halftime.,
"Playing into a strong wind 2nd half was always going to be a tough ask but the boys dominated the half and showed tremendous grit and skill to carve out several good chances as the half went on. A couple of nervy moments in stoppage time but to be fair on the balance of play a well deserved point to finish a tough fixture schedule for January, taking 14 points out of a possible 18 and remaining unbeaten in the league this month.
"Once again, thanks to the travelling faithful for the tremendous support. Up the Pewits."
