Nelson sunk in Emley victory

Emley recovered from a goal down at half time to claim all 3 points in a battle with Nelson at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground
Despite the game being scrappy and fractured at times it was still a vital 3 points for the Pewits as they look to finally put some wins together.
But they will have to play, and finish a lot better than they did here, ironically, it was a scrappy goal that won it for Emley.
Played in bright and warm early Autumn sunshine, Emley attacked the Warburton end in the first half, but it was their Lancastrian visitors who fired the first warning shots across the bow, George Clarke was happy to see a snatched shot go wide, Emley then settled down and started to throw a few wayward shots themselves, Declan Dawson rose highest from a Bordman corner but could only head wide, then Jimmy Eyles, industrious and hard working as ever tried his luck from 20 yards but luckily for the Nelson keeper it also went wide.
Emley kept the pressure up, Eyles again shot wide, and just a couple of minutes later he was sent through only for the defender to parry the shot behind, the corner came to nothing and the game then became a bit of a stalemate.
Another fine through ball played in Adam Haw, who couldn't find the finish and Nelson were happy to clear the decks again, Bordman then tried his luck but his shot went wide.
And as half time approached, Emley were dealt a swift blow, a ball in from the right sailed past all the Emley defenders and Hollindrake was left with the simple task of heading past Clarke unmarked for a half time lead to the visitors, in what was really only their second meaningful attack.
H/T 0-1
Emley wasted little time in restoring parity in the second half with a goal very similar to Nelson, a free kick was sent in from the right and Andy McManus, also unmarked, powered a header past the keeper at the shed end.
Emley then looked to take control of the game and they pretty much did that, pegging Nelson back time and time again, Callum Charlton causing problems down the left, Eyles and Bordman in the middle, it was surely only a matter of time before a second Emley goal came?
Well they huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the house down as chances came and went, not for the first time this season, Bordman had 3 good chances in 5 minutes go amiss, first, he put a shot wide, then he tried a cheeky overhead kick which went over, then he almost smashed the bar in half with a rasping shot after Nelson failed to clear.
But a goal did finally come and it came in strange circumstances, Eyles, chased a ball down and as he got to it, the ball appeared to have run away from him, but the keeper inadvertently pushed the Emley forward who managed to get a toe end on it to steer it in off the post!, the keepers push probably acted as the main assist!
Eyles wasn't complaining though, he will have been happy to just to get a goal after missing countless times to add to his tally over the season so far, he could and probably should have had at least 1 more in this game too, he was inches away from converting a Bordman cross just a few minutes later.
But Emley get plugging away looking for a third and final blow, Bordman, again tried and overhead kick which went wide, then Callum Charlton blasted a shot into the shed end after beating his man.
Eyles then had a glorious chance to finally sink Nelson's crew, but he dithered when clean through and the keeper managed to scramble the ball to safety.
And credit to the visitors who kept going until the end looking for an equaliser, but Emley's rear guard stood firm and the Pewits sailed off into the sunset with the 3 points safely stashed on board.
The win moves Emley up to 10th on the North West Counties D1 North table.
Emley are back in league action on Wednesday when they travel to Bacup Borough (8.00pm) for a rearranged game that was beaten by the weather- in August!
