Emley's unbeaten run goes on at the Riverside.

Emley move up to 6th place in the NWCFL D1 North table after a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over struggling Garstang, although it took goals from both centre backs to finally get the job done!
On a warm, sunny afternoon in a pleasant location on the banks of the River Wyre, and with another good contingent of Emley supporters present, it was the Pewits, in Sky blue shirts who dominated the early stages and should, in reality have had at least a couple of goals to show for it.
It took only a couple of minutes for Emley to create a good chance, Rob Bordman's cross was somehow scrambled to safety off the line, just a minute later, Danny Farrar's neat header put Jimmy Eyles through, but the keeper makes a save, then, a corner was swung in deep into Garstang's area and was missed by everyone, Andy McManus chips back into the danger area and Dom Riordan's header went inches wide.
Eyles, as is becoming customary, was causing the defence problems with his running off the shoulder and harrying of defenders and he was through again a few moments later, but again, couldn't find a finish and the keeper saves.
Garstang, who sacked their manager- former Huddersfield Town, Barnsley and Celtic player Andy Payton were being overwhelmed in the early part of the game but did manage to create a good chance of their own, Emley keeper George Clarke came running out, the forward rounds him but the angle was too tight and Emley breathed a sigh of relief.
The Pewits continued their assault on the Garstang goal, but the home side stood firm and kept the game scoreless,Eyles, again was clean through, but again he couldn't break the deadlock, nor could McManus, who saw a header go wide from close range.
Garstang rallied and created a couple of chances of their own, a great cross from the left was thankfully missed by 2 home players coming in on it, while Clarke made a save a few moments later.
Eyles and Bordman combined for Emley's next good chance, a lovely bit of work by Eyles, who squared to Bordman, who totally mishit the shot and it was cleared.
A dominant but frustrating half for Emley and their fans.
H/T 0-0
The chatter at half time was how Emley had dominated but failed to take any of their multiple chances and how it could come back to haunt them.
It seemed the pattern was set to continue as McManus had a shot tipped over by the impressive Garstang keeper, Emley were moving the ball about well and getting full backs Declan Dawson and Jack Cooper forward at every opportunity, with Conor Glavin finding space in and around the area.
But the goal finally arrived 5 minutes into the second half, Emley corner sent in from Bordman and Dom Riordan plants a firm header into the net to the relief of the Emley contingent.
With the deadlock now broken, Emley could relax a little and look for a second, they almost got it and Eyles almost got his just rewards with a lovely chip over the advancing keeper but it drops just wide, but it wasn't long before the Pewits could relax even more, when Alex Metcalfe fired a shot in, which, again, was well saved by the Garstang keeper, from the corner, a goalmouth scramble ensued, the ball fell to centre half McManus who poked the ball home.
Garstang, to their credit came back and forced Clarke to make a fine save with his legs to maintain Emley's lead, and was forced to make another great stop from a direct free kick from outside the area.
Eyles then tried his luck with another chip but with the same result, but with the clock running down, Emley were prepared to play out time and joint manager Mark Wilson came on to shore up a midfield which had ran and battled hard, there were no other chances of note but Emley had come through a potentially tricky game with 3 points and a clean sheet, which didn't necessarily please Wilson;
"Disappointing performance, after playing our best game at a strong Ashton in midweek, we have to adapt to playing the so called lesser teams, instead of going out with the wrong attitude, some stern, honest words were said at half time and we went out with a better attitude and got the goals, the only chances Garstang created was from our poor play or decisions, the result is the main thing, but we need an improved performance on Monday, the lads must learn that you have to earn the points and not just turn up and they're yours."
