Good day in the sun for four-star Emley

Emley are up to 6th in NWCFL Div 1 North after an impressive 4-2 away win at Daisy Hill, Although some may feel the scoreline doesn't reflect the game, with Emley dominant for most of it and conceding 2 sloppy goals defensively, the win was especially pleasing considering Daisy Hill's 2 home games so far have been 3-1 and 2-1 wins.
Although it didn't start off so well!
On a bright, warm day and with the pitch looking good, Emley, backed by a good proportion of the crowd, looked jittery early on, it was the home side who were the most threatening, Emley Keeper George Clarke had to be alert, when a header was on target, from the resulting corner, another header was cleared off the line, Emley were on the back foot and needing to get a foothold in the game.
They did that through the tireless Jimmy Eyles, whose non stop running and harrying caused the home defenders lots of problems, and it was Eyles who was rewarded with the first goal of the game, a good kick out from Clarke and Eyles is quick onto a defensive error to round the keeper and slot home.
That goal seemed to settle Emley down and they looked more composed and confident, Rob Bordman, who likes a shot now and then, tried his luck from a free kick from 20 yards out but it went over, before Eyles, found himself clean through again, this time he decided to chip the keeper but the keeper got back in time to clear off the line and got an eyeful and a mouthful of post in the process!
But it wouldn't be long until the Pewits were celebrating again, Eyles, again was making a nuisance of himself in the Daisy Hill defence, and was brought down, clear penalty, up stepped Bordman to smash home and double Emley's lead inside 20 minutes.
Emley were looking dangerous in attack, and Daisy Hill couldn't get out of their own half and were struggling to make any impact in the game, Emley's midfield duo of Jamie Price and Josh Ingham kept things ticking over, and not giving the home side any space or freedom in which to play, whilst Sam Gibson and Jack Cooper from full back, provided width, Emley were looking good.
They had a great chance to add a third goal, when Bordman stepped up to blast another penalty after a clumsy challenge on Ben Walker, but the penalty was well saved by the keeper, Emley continued to attack and 2 good headed chances were passed up, Dom Riordan from a corner and Danny Farrar from a lovely cross from Bordman, Bordman was thwarted again by the keeper but again, the Daisy Hill stopper saved well.
The hosts had the last real action of the half, George Clarke watched a shot sail well wide of his goal, Emley were well worth their half time lead, but should possibly have been more.
H/T 0-2
The second half started in bright, warm sunshine and Emley wasted no time in showing their attacking intentions again, Eyles and Walker tormented the home defence but Eyles couldn't get his shot away.
Then, probably the moment Emley made the game safe with a 3rd goal, it was far from a classic but it counted all the same, again, the workaholic Eyles, harried the defence and after winning possession, his cross, was only partially cleared and came out to Josh Ingham who got the most scruffiest connection, but somehow the ball managed to beat the keeper and into the bottom corner to the delight of the Emley stalwart, his team mates, managers and fans, you don't often see Josh Ingham goals!
Emley couldn't find another breakthrough, although credit to the hosts who stepped up their game and started to cause Emley a few problems of their own now.
So 3-0 up and seemingly cruising to 3 points, it wouldn't be Emley if things were so easy, and sure enough, a defensive mishap saw the ball nestled into the corner from a neat strike from Ridings.
Emley should have then wrapped the game up a few minutes later, Eyles, rounds the keeper, but instead of shooting, passes to an unmarked Conor Glavin who saw his shot smash of the defenders legs.
But Emley would eventually get a 4th and wrap up the points, again, it was Eyles who beat the offside trap with a great angled run, again he rounded the keeper but this time he placed a tidy shot into the bottom corner, his second and no less than he deserved for a cracking performance.
Bordman almost got his second a minute or so later, a lovely chip sailed over the keeper but dropped agonisingly wide.
With the game entering stoppage time, the home side managed a consolation, again and it was a good one, a neat piece of control and shot into the corner from Ramwell ended the scoring, but it wasn't the end of the action, right on full time, Clarke had to be alert to pull off a brilliant save from close range as the Pewits' defence was again caught napping.
Emley secured their first points on the road and their 2nd win in 3 games ahead of a busy week with a trip to Ashton Town on Tuesday, then a visit to Garstang on Saturday, before the first "Huddersfield derby" of the season as Golcar United and their contingent of ex Emley players come to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on bank holiday Monday.
