AFC Emley sign off on a high

AFC Emley's time came to an end with a 2-1 win at second bottom  Harworth colliery in a game that was mainly dictated by the weather.
With a strong ,swirling wind at their backs, Emley found it hard going at times, struggling to make any headway or make any passes stick, but Michael Bottomley did manage the first shot of the game, shooting wide with a snap shot, Harworth came into it more, forcing George Clarke to make a good save which Stocker managed to clear away, Emley were breathing a sigh of relief a couple of minutes later, a cross was whipped across the box and the shot was just wide.
On the half hour, Emley had their best attack of the half, good work by Paul Pyke on the right, found Ben Burnett who's sliding pass found Daniel Naidole who was flagged offside. Emley were left to that opportunity as Harworth took the lead 2 minutes later, a defensive mix up allowing Mullen to poke the ball home, both teams tried to combat the wind but the first half petered out with the home side 1-0 up.
H/T 1-0
With the wind now their friend there was some confidence amongst the Emley supporters, they had a vision of what was to come, a free kick just outside the area was whipped in by Danny Stocker but it went over.
Just a minute or so later, a defensive mix up from Harworth resulted in an Emley corner but the header was wide, Harworth then countered, but the end shot went wide.
But within 2 minutes, Emley were on level terms, a free kick outside the area, Michael Starkey wasted no time in spotting the ball, before confidently stepping up and smashing it into the net, an almost carbon copy of his goal V Shirebrook.
Emley's confidence was now sky high and they continued to attack, Daniel Naidole saw a free kick go wide, then fired another one over, Bottomley had a great chance after a defensive error let him in but he was caught in two minds and it was cleared.
Emley were piling on the pressure now but couldn't find the second goal, Naidole saw a header go just inches wide, a goalmouth scrambled ended with the ball being cleared over the bar, but Emley were determined to get the second goal, Substitute Wayne Hughes twice shot wide on the turn as things became tetchy, Emley manager Marlon Adams ended up prone after a push from a Harworth defender as things threatened to boil over.
But Adams was soon celebrating, as Emley finally did find a winner, but from rather fortuitous circumstances, a ball was played back to the keeper who lost the flight in the wind and as Patrick Sykes chased down the keeper desperately tried to clear but it hit Sykes and ended up in the net! Emley weren't complaining though, with just 2 minutes left, Emley had snatched a win, their last game as AFC Emley before resorting to Emley AFC for next season.
