Pewits end home campaign on a high

AFC Emley rounded off their 2018/19 home campaign with a 4th straight win, this time a 3-0 win over Armthorpe Welfare, to add to impressive wins over Shirebrook Town (5-0), East Yorkshire Carnegie (2-1) and Winterton rangers (2-1), as Emley AFC next year they'll be looking to make the Fantastic Media Welfare ground a fortress in 2019/20.
The game itself was fairly even for the most part, but an example of Emley's improvement over the last few weeks, they were clinical up front and solid at the back, with 3 well taken goals the difference.
The home side showed their attacking intent early on, Wayne Hughes played a superb ball out to Paul Pyke on the right and his whipped cross was put over the bar from Daniel Naidole.
The deadlock was broken on 10 minutes, again, both Hughes and pyke were involved, a goal mouth scramble ensued before Shane Hamilton buried a loose ball into the net.
Hughes, who was involved in almost everything early on, tried his luck himself when the ball came to him inside the area, but he could only fire his shot wide.
Armthorpe started to wake up and cause a few problems of their own, a couple of decent crosses were wells Walt with by Lincoln Adams, and a great tackle by Danny Stocker prevented the visitors from equalising, but the best attack from Armthorpe ended up with George Clarke making a fine save from a curling shot.
Last week, Paul Pyke scored a cracking goal with an overhead kick, he seems to have got the bug, as again he tried his luck, but this time it went just wide.
Just as half time was approaching Naidole fancied a goal, but he couldn't direct a shot that went wide.
H/T 1-0
The second half took a while to get going, as the sun dipped and the temperature dropped, Naidole was the first to try and extend Emley's lead, but his firm header went over the bar, but on the hour he had his reward, with not a lot on,he picked the ball up 20 yards out, took a couple of touches and whipped a low, curling shot into the bottom corner that gave the keeper no chance., Naidole was hungry for more, another long range shot was tipped around the corner by the keeper.
In between all this, Armthorpe still battled away gamely, but got no change at all out of Emley's rearguard who mopped up everything that was thrown at them.
It looked like the game was meandering towards the end, but Emley weren't quite finished yet, a corner on the right, whipped in by Stocker and substitute Patrick Sykes planted a cracking header past the hapless keeper for 3-0,
Ben Burnett almost made it 4 but he could only watch as a well hit shot sailed wide, not that anyone in claret and blue were complaining.
Emley had notched up another impressive home win to finish the season on a high, and with 2 more away games at Winterton and Harworth to come, Marlon Adams' men will be looking to finish the season as a whole off on a winning note!
