defeat to promotion chasers no disgrace

AFC Emley suffered a 2-1 defeat at promotion chasing Nostell MW on Friday night, although they were far from disgraced and could probably count themselves unlucky not to come away with at least a point.
In front of a bumper Friday night crowd of 236, way higher than any previous home game for Nostell, and boosted by the usual good turnout of Emley supporters, it was the second time in as many weeks that these 2 teams have played each other under the Friday night lights, and as with the game at Emley, it was Nostell who edged it by a signal goal.
Nostell came into the game right in the promotion mix, sitting in 3rd place after a run of form that has seen them go 8 games unbeaten, Emley meanwhile were 12th after a decent run of form that eased slight relegation doubts.
The game got underway-twice! after the initial kick off was restarted due to the home side encroaching, and it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game, a cross/shot from the right hit the bar and Nostell breathed a sigh of relief, a few minutes later and an even bigger sigh of relief, Michael Starkey also saw a shot hit the bar and Emley were looking good.
Nostell managed their first real attempt, but George Clarke in the Emley nets saved well and the danger had passed, Emley's tricky, little winger Arnold Ndiweni decided to get in on the action, and his jinking run and shot was saved by the Nostell keeper and put out for a corner.
And it was somewhat against the run of play when the home side opened the scoring, after a delay for an injury, it was somewhat inevitable to see that it was Andy Horbury, who left Emley for Nostell 2 weeks ago the man to get it.
H/T 1-0
The half time score probably didn't reflect the game as Emley had the better chances, but you have to take your chances at any level of football.
But to Emley's credit they came out for the second half in determined mood, although not a lot happened in the opening stages of the half, as both teams cancelled each other out, but then finally Emley got the rewards their efforts deserved, a ball over the top was nearly tucked away by Daniel Naidole for his 3rd goal in 4 games.
Emley were now on top and their vocal supporters really getting behind them, they almost took the lead not long after, Naidole again in the thick of it, but his shot was neatly tipped over the bar by Brooke in the Nostell goal.
But as so often happens in sport, the game swung completely the other way within minutes, with the home side on the attack, Emley were hesitant at the back and Kane Reece managed to get the ball and fire home and Nostell had turned it around.
Despite their efforts, Emley couldn't find a second equaliser and the home defence held firm and could have almost snatched a 3rd late on, but George Clarke saved well to deny them and Nostell took the points.
