Pewits steal all 3 points from Robin Hood country to extend away run

Emley secured a comprehensive 2-0 win at Sherwood Colliery to maintain an incredible away record in the league, this was The Pewits' 13th away league match and their 11th clean sheet, only Newton Aycliffe and Cleethorpes have managed to hit the net when Emley are the visitors.

Emley dominated this game from start to finish and Sherwood never really looked like adding themselves to that list of two, Emley could and possibly should have more than the two goals we did manage such was our dominance.

In our dazzling orange, and backed by over half the crowd in the caged surroundings of Debdale Park, we were on the front foot straight away, Sorhaindo stung the hands of the goalkeeper with a fierce shot which was parried away, and 2 minutes later, following a scintillating run from Berchil, the ball was only cleared as far as Luke Parkin who lashed over the bar.

Emley were in firm control from minute one, and despite playing some nice passing football, the hosts offered very little attacking threat, any form of attack was dealt with by the Emley defence.

It took just 13 minutes for The Pewits to break the deadlock, following some more good attacking work by Berchil and then by Parkin who was then set free down the right in acres of space, his ball in was played right onto the penalty spot where Chris Dawson met it to slide home past the keeper and send us on our way.

The rest of the half saw Emley stroll around the plastic pitch with confidence, Sherwood made the odd foray into Emley territory, when they did, Cowgill and Barks were on hand to make sure they didn't trouble Lambton, the Emely keeper was forced into collecting a cross though, other than that, he had very little to do.

Same could be said of Pierrepoint, as the home keeper didn't have much more to do as the first half fizzled out with Emley in firm control.

H/T- Sherwood Colliery 0-1 Emley

Another bright start to the second half saw Emley straight back on the attack, Laurence Sorhaindo was extremely unlucky, when after forcing a corner on the right, he met Hardaker's ball in with a thumping header, which then thumped off the bar and over, the hosts looked more threatening going forward but still nothing to trouble Emley, although Lambton was forced to catch a dangerous looking corner under pressure.

On the hour, and Joe Kenny was replaced by Donae Lawrence who wasted little time in causing problems deep in Sherwood's half, his strong, surging run pushed him past a couple of defenders before laying off to Parkin who saw his shot deflected for a corner, from that corner, Charlie Barks was the unlucky Pewit who also saw a header kept out by the crossbar.

Sherwood then thought they had an equaliser but fortunately for Emley the offside flag was up and they went straight down the other end and almost added a second, a powerful run from Sorhaindo found Berchil, his touch took him past the keeper but wide, he still got the shot away and it looked like going in until it was scrambled away by a desperate Wood defender.

However, that would soon be forgotten as Emley wrapped up the points from the resulting corner, the initial ball in wasn't dealt with by Sherwood, Cowgill headed in back into the danger zone where Donae Lawrence was on hand to swivel and smash high into the net, there was no way back now for Sherwood.

Two more changes for Emley with just over ten to go, Sorhaindo and Dawson were given a rousing ovation by the travelling support and replaced by Nathan Curtis and Hayden Lindley, Lindley picked up where Dawson left off, dogged tackling and some neat touches set up Emley's next chance, another corner wasn't properly dealt with and Cowgill's stabbed effort was caught by the keeper.

At the other end, and following a bit of pressure from the hosts, Lambton was finally forced into a save, after a cross-shot went wide, Dec had to be down low to save a flashing shot, which he did well.

With the game ticking into added time and the points won, Emley were happy to see it out, a final change saw Belchior Rodrigues replace Luke Parkin and the final act of the game saw skipper Alex Metcalfe's low shot saved by the keeper.

And so another win, another clean sheet, another celebration with the fans saw Emley maintain third place, they would have been second had it not been for Belper's late win at Liversedge.

We are back at home for the next 2 games, starting with the visit of Stocksbridge on Tuesday.
