Bishop Auckland 0-4 Emley

Pewits remain unbeaten at the top of the table following impressive romp.

For the second time this season, Emley returned from County Durham with an impressive 4-0 away win, having hammered a 10-man Bishop Auckland at Heritage Park to remain unbeaten as league leaders.

It was a hugely impressive display from The Pewits in an entertaining game that included a superb hat trick from top scorer Amir Berchil, a penalty save by Lambton, a red card, and several yellow cards.

Emley took the lead before most of the crowd had even settled into their places. From the very first whistle, Emley attacked. Berchil’s run down the left resulted in a corner, which was partially cleared. Metcalfe turned it back into the danger zone, but Haigh’s shot went wide.

But from the resulting play, Emley took an early lead, the keeper tried playing a ball across the pitch but it was cut out by the alert Amir Berchil who calmly slotted past the despairing keeper with barely 2 minutes played.

At the other end, the hosts saw a free kick from outside the area blocked before Baldwin finished off a sweeping move from right to left but his shot was parried by the keeper.

Berchil was his usual busy self stepping in and out and creating space, he tried his luck but his shot was saved and Baldwin's follow up was wide.

Baldwin was involved in the red card on 15 minutes, when he was the victim of a studs up challenge that resulted in the referee not hesitating to pull a red card out, Baldwin needed lengthy treatment and was then strangely, roundly booed by the home fans for the rest of the game, however, Baldwin and his merry men in orange would have the last laugh.

Bishop did actually do ok with 10 men as Emley looked for a way to find a second and the hosts looked to counter attack, Cowgill had Emley's next chance but from a corner, he planted a header over.

Donae Lawrence was causing problems on Emley's right , Berchil on the left and the two of them almost combined but Berchil's fizzing ball in was just beyond Lawrence's outstretched leg.

Bishops created a good chance for themselves, but the shot didn’t trouble Lambton and flew wide. A few minutes later, Lambton was relieved to see another shot from distance hit the side netting.

Emley were still pushing for a second and Berchil's teasing ball in flew across the face of goal without an Emley touch, then 3 successive Emley corners ended with Barks shooting narrowly wide.

Emley were forced into a change right on half time as Tom Haigh hobbled off to be replaced by Lawrence Sorhaindo, making his Emley debut as Baldwin, still being booed saw a shot directed straight at the keeper.

H/T- Bishop Auckland 0-1 Emley

Emley wasted little time in doubling their lead just 5 minutes after the restart, with both sides testing each other out a little bit, Emley finally got the break, Baldwin marauded down the left and played a ball into Sorhaindo who saw his shot rattle the post, it bounced back out to none other than Isaac Baldwin who swept home to finish what he started and shush the Bishop boo-boys!

However within a couple of minutes, the hosts had a great chance to pull one back when they were awarded a penalty, but Dec Lambton kept his nerve to make a fine save low to his left and the resulting corner was put wide.

Straight up the other end and skipper Metcalfe fired one from range but it was just over the bar, Lambton was down low again to make another save as The Bishops looked for a way back into the contest, Sorhaindo was causing problems with his movement and strength and he flashed a header just wide from another Pewits corner.

Emley were really starting to put pressure on the hosts as the hour mark rolled by, Berchil and Baldwin were having fun down the left, cutting Bishop's defence open time and again, when Berchil's latest run and shot was blocked Sorhaindo once again couldn't get his bearings as he fired over.

Another chance at the other end but another save from Lambton who held onto a cheeky lob from 20 yards, and that was about it from the hosts as Emley put the game to bed with some scintillating stuff, Darnell Mintus, who impressed in the county cup game in midweek replaced Curtis , and Lawrence was an inch away from converting a fine cross from Sheppeard.

Emley were playing some impressive stuff as they ran their hosts ragged and it was no surprise when a third goal from Emley finally put the contest to bed, a tremendous run and shot from Amir Berchil left the keeper grasping thin air.

Donae Lawrence then fancied a notch on the scoresheet himself, a searing run through the heart of the home defence saw the big midfielder create space but unfortunately he couldn't convert and the ball rolled agonisingly wide before Berchil tore the defence apart again but his shot was also wide.

It wouldn't take long though for Emley to finally put the Two Blues out of their misery with a stunning 4th goal, Amir Berchil once again creating his own chance, ghosting inside and leaving floundering defenders in his wake he unleashed a fizzing shot that flew past the keeper to seal his hat trick and send Emley fans home happy from the North East again.

Within a minute of the goal, Berchil and the ever willing Lawrence made way for Malumo and Hardaker but Emley settled for 4 to round off a fine win, they did have the ball in the back of the net a fifth time but an offside flag cancelled out Metcalfe's thunderbolt into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Sorhaindo did everything but score on his Emley bow and he was denied late on by a fine save from the keeper, but with 3 points, 4 goals and another clean sheet in the kitbag, Emley now look forward to a West Yorkshire derby at Pontefract Collieries on Tuesday.
