Quarter final place secured in 6 goal rout for Emley

Emley once again put Daisy Hill to the sword as they progressed into the quarter finals of the PlayerMatch.com cup with a comfortable 6-1 win over their opponents from Westhoughton, who must be sick of the sight of Emley, their 3 games this season have ended in 4-2, 4-2 and now 6-1 wins for the Pewits, but despite the scoreline 'the cutters' battled well throughout the game and were given a good round of applause for their efforts by the Emley crowd.
Emley, fresh from their last minute winner at Cleator Moor on Saturday looked in the mood and Alex Metcalfe was at the heart of most of the good, early stuff, it was his shot from distance that went wide and his strong running that put Emley on the front foot, Metcalfe was involved again, this time releasing Declan Dawson on a familiar rampaging overlapping run, but the full backs rasping shot also went wide, Rob Bordman also saw a shot saved by the keeper.
But the visitors, playing some decent stuff at times were creative themselves, a good piece of play saw an unmarked player in the box, but to Emley's relief he struck it both high and wide, but it was Daisy Hill who took the lead, a free kick from outside the box was floated in harmlessly, but George Clarke got his bearings wrong and it sailed over him into the net, to be fair to the young Emley stopper, who was clearly disappointed in himself, he was probably as surprised as anyone to be able to see that far out of his area without having peering through the fog!, but the young ultras soon had his back and were back behind him.
Despite that Emley were soon in total control of the game, having first found an equaliser then adding another 2 goals to turn the tie around, Metcalfe was rewarded for his industry with a fine goal, his powerful strike from inside the area found the top corner and just 3 minutes later Emley were ahead, the bustling Jimmy Eyles this time the scorer, a great ball in from the right was slotted home by the nippy forward as Emley pushed on.
But the visitors were still plugging away and they created a great chance, a control, volley and shot all in one swift movement probably deserved better than than going wide, that was Daisy Hill's last real attacking moment of the half as Emley surged forward again.
Bordman saw another shot well saved, and Eyles, was also thwarted as he sprung the offside trap but the keeper saved, the rebound couldn't beat the keeper either, but just before half time Emley did get a third, a neat turn and shot from top scorer Bordman this time beat the keeper, and then Metcalfe went for his second but his long range shot was well parried by the keeper as the ref blew her whistle for half time.
H/T 3-1
Emley were well in command of this game and well on their way to a quarter final berth, but it was important that they still maintained their effort levels, and this they did, immediately attacking the 'shed' in the second half, a cross from Jack Knight was put wide with the aid of a deflection, it wasn't long before Emley added a 4th goal, again, another attack was dealt with of sorts but from the resulting corner, big centre back Jack Steers did as his name suggests and with nimble footwork steered the ball into net almost unmarked.
Emley were rampant now as their opponents seemed to wilt and confidence drained, Bordman, was extremely unlucky with a terrific curling shot that came back off the post, he seems to have at least one hit the post every game!, He also had a great chance just a few moments later but inexplicably fired it over the roof of the shed when it seemed like number 5 was on it's way.
But Daisy Hill kept plugging away and managed a decent spell but their attacks were dealt with by the centre back pairing of Steers and Price and Clarke wasn't really tested except for one long range shot that was easily saved.
Emley made some changes and Finn Donovan was as lively as ever, he fashioned a great chance for himself out of nothing but his shot was well saved, Emley then eventually added a 5th goal, great play between Eyles, Glavin and Donovan, Eyles found himself surrounded by defenders in the box, but some great close control and an equally impressive turn and he dispatched his shot into the bottom left corner, not long after he had a great chance for a hat trick but his shot had too much weight and went over.
Another sub, Sam Agar also caused problems with his strong running, competitiveness and interplay, and he was unlucky with a fine chip from 20 yards which just went over, he had another shot go over as more good interchange passing from the Pewits ripped the defence apart.
But with the game won and the clock ticking over 90 minutes, Emley added a 6th, more good work, started by Coker spraying the ball out wide, and Finn Donovan was on hand to slot home for the 6th and final time as Daisy Hill were looking battered and bruised, but far from disgraced.
Emley now face a tricky tie away at league leaders Lower Breck in Liverpool in the quarter final and are without a game this weekend so their next game is at home to AFC Darwen next Wednesday, the 11th.
