Emley's road to Wembley still open

Emley pulled off something of a shock last minute win at NWCFL Premier division Burscough in the FA Vase first qualifying round replay, after a late equaliser and a scoreless extra time period at Emley on Sunday, the tie would be settled tonight.
The game was played out amidst driving wind and the conditions made it difficult to play any particularly good football, so credit to both teams for making a decent game out of it.
But that didn't stop Emley from taking the lead after 10 minutes, a corner looked to be harmless, but it skidded across the box and Danny Farrar got a good connection to fire home, and Emley were up and running.
The home side soon hit back and veteran player coach Steve Nicholson was on hand to clear off the line after Burscough had broken and George Clarke had to come off his line.
Credit to Emley, who came back, a good move from a free kick on the edge of the box and with a cluster of Pewits in attendance, but somehow it went agonisingly wide for the visitors.
And, of course, they were made to pay for that miss, somewhat against the run of play, but a defensive mishap caused Emley's downfall and Dalton equalises for Burscough, and it was almost 2 a short time later but Emley were grateful to see the shot hit the bar.
H/T 1-1
Emley came out fired up in the second half, looking to take the game to their higher league hosts, and Rob Bordman showed his intent with a free kick that was well saved as it looked to be going in, and he was to be even unluckier moments later, when a similar free kick from the other side did beat the keeper but the bar came to Burscough's rescue this time.
Emley were on top and playing some neat stuff and attacking well, and Bordman was at the heart of it all, another great effort, a spectacular shot from just inside his own half only just cleared the bar, it would have surpassed his effort this season against Chadderton!
John Lufudu fancied a bit of action but his shot was saved by the Burscough keeper, Emley were well on top by now and the home side struggled to get any kind of foothold in the game.
Bordman was making their defence work overtime, this time he curled a corner that looked to be heading in, but the keeper saved, and unbelievably, he tried another shot from halfway, again the keeper was alert to tip it over.
But back came Burscough, a rasping shot flew over the bar, and then Clarke had to be alert to stop another fierce shot as the hosts looked to turn the screw, but Emley held firm, not only that, they went and retook the lead with barely minutes to go, Bordman, who else? uses his strength to turn and shoot into the bottom corner, to the delight of the travelling Emley contingent.
But it wasn't all over yet.. Clarke had to pull put another good stop as he found himself one on one with the Burscough man.
But Emley had done enough and pulled off a good win at a team a league above them and will now host Winterton Rangers in the 2nd qualifying round.
Emley are back in action, again, away, again in Lancashire this Saturday ( 7th) when they travel to St Helens to take on Pilkington, but tonight was about the road to Wembley and Emley have taken a step on it!
