Emley Academy completed their pre season with an impressive 5-1 victory over Athersley Rec at Sheerien Park.

A fine 4 goal haul from Jack Bennett and a cracking strike from Ethan Nixon gave Emley a morale boosting win in what was a competitive encounter.

Emley made a good start to the contest and found themselves 1-0 up thanks to a strong run and lovely curling shot into the bottom corner from Nixon.

Emley's defence had to withstand a lot of pressure from home side but Josh Leake in the Emley nets was up for the challenge with some important saves.

Athersley's pressure finally told as Leake was beaten from close range.

Coron Rowe was unlucky not to add to Emley's lead when his flashing shot hit the post and bounced away and Owen Thomas saw a shot go wide.

The second half was pretty much all Emley as Morgan East and Jack Bennett in particular had plenty of fun.

East assisting for 2 of Bennett's goals, his first was mainly down to his tenacity to beat the defence and hit an angled shot into the bottom corner, East showed some great skill to ride a scything challenge before putting a peach of a hanging cross over which Bennett headed back over the keeper.

Bennett's hat trick came from the penalty spot after Hayden Webster was brought down, and his fourth came from another great ball in from the right by Morgan East.

Both sides saw shots on goal in the latter stages but the night belonged to Sam Sutton's young charges with an excellent performance.
