The family, friends and team mates of the very popular former captain Richard Hirst gathered at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for the annual game between AFC Emley and Ryhill.
This year's event also saw the official opening of a stand named in his honour. The stand, known as "The Shed" was refurbished last year using money raised by a group of Hirsty's friends from both clubs walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. This raised over £3000, which along with the kind donation of Hirsty's family from the memorial match 2 years ago, and a grant from the FA Foundation, paid for the recladding of the 50 year old stand as well as a new boiler for the changing room showers.
John Hirst, Richard's dad, and his brother, also called John, opened the stand by revealing the plaque behind the goal.
The game was won by Hirsty's Emley who defeated Ricky's Ryhill 8-3 in an entertaining game.
