Players at Emley AFC have scored an early double - scooping both individual prizes in the league’s player of the month awards for October.

Club captain Jamie Price is the NWCFL Division One North Player of the Month while goalkeeper George Clarke has scooped the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month for the division.

On his award Price said: "I’m very grateful to have won this award, we’ve had a great month and all of the lads have played their part. I am pleased to have been nominated by Emley but further to that it is great to be selected as the overall winner. More importantly though is we keep working hard collectively to keep winning games and help us move forward."

Clarke responded on social media: "Thank you to Emley AFC for the kind words. Best supporters in the league. Love the Emley Ultras and @UoHnonleagueSoc for all their vocal encouragement. As a team we are desperate to get you back where you belong. Thank you to @nwcfl and @ReuschUK for the award."

The full nominations the club submitted can be read below

Jamie Price: “Emley AFC are unbeaten in October with five wins and a draw. This has seen progress in the Playermatch.com Cup, Macron Cup and moved Emley up to second in the Division One North table. Jamie Price has been instrumental in that successful month. He has played in every game but one since the start of the season and his performances have been consistently 8 out of 10 and above throughout.

"He has played in midfield and defence this season but, in October, dropped back into central defence due to injuries. He is a combative player but his aggression is always controlled. Despite this aggression, he has only picked up two yellow cards this season and none in October. He is more of an 'unsung hero' in the team. Doing the hard running, organising and mopping up allowing the players around him to gain attention for goalscoring and attacking play. As our club captain, he has high personal standards and, by leading by example, instils that in the players around him – especially the younger ones. He is an exceptional leader and everyone in and around the team respects him.

"As captain, he shows respect to the match officials and tries his level best to work with them to maintain his team's discipline and avoid any unnecessary bookings or incidents. Since a reshuffle to our management team, as a senior player, he has stepped up further in October to support the manager and assistant manager and is a great link and sounding board when management needs to discuss player issues.”

George Clarke: “Our nomination for Goalkeeper of the Month is George Clarke Emley AFC are unbeaten in October with five wins and a draw. This has seen progress in the Playermatch.com Cup, Macron Cup and moved Emley up to second in the Division One North table. George Clarke has been crucial in that successful month – including picking up a MOTM. He has played in every game since the start of the season and is developing all the time.

"Many supporters – Emley or otherwise – struggle to accept he is just 19 years old. Goalkeepers traditionally reach their prime later than outfield players. He is still learning and progressing but his rise has been exceptional. Although we are second in the league, some games have been far from comfortable wins and often we can reflect on a 'worldie' save from George that has saved us from dropping point. Our 2-2 draw with Bacup is an excellent example. A tough game on a poor surface meant our usual free-flowing football was stuttering. At 2-1 down, it looked to be nailed on that the Bacup striker would finish into an empty net. With a cross from the byline, with George covering his near post, he managed to recover across his goal line and save one-handed a well-placed and strong shot. It was amazing but not untypical.

"Off the field, a more mature 19 years old you're unlikely to meet. He is quick to recognise any errors he makes – there are few, but they hurt him. He always thanks supporters for their encouragement both in person and on social media. After home games, George returns from the post-match debrief and always has a kick about or penalty shoot out with the young Emley supporters (the Emley Ultras!). They love it and they love him for it. Touches like that are as important as his performances."
