Following our first league win in 10 matches, we are in County Cup action next when a familiar opponent, Worksop Town visit the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup 3rd round tie on Tuesday (7.45pm)
It will the 4th successive season that the two sides have been drawn together in this competition with Worksop having the better of things, having won every game at a record of F14 A0, including a 10-0 quarter final hammering when Emley were the holders 4 years ago.
Worksop have generally been in a higher level than Emley, and generally have a far bigger budget and squad but following Saturday's impressive win at Stockton and last week's draw at FC United, Emley can feel fairly confident of improving those statistics on Tuesday night.
It will be far from easy though, Worksop are currently in the bottom half of the National League North table but have only lost once in their last 4 league games, however, they were soundly beaten by FCUM in the FA Cup.
The sides were regular opponents throughout the decades and enjoyed a good rivalry but we haven't met in the league for 22 years now, the last 5 meetings have all been cup ties, including the last meeting at this stage last season, both teams go into the game on a 2 match unbeaten streak.
WHO ARE THEY?
They claim to have been founded in 1861, making them the fourth oldest club in the world but there is no evidence to support this and the club has been dissolved and reformed numerous times.
They played predominantly in the old Midland League until becoming a founder member of the Northern Premier League in 1968, they then rejoined the Midland League a year later and back to the NPL in 1974-75, thirty years later they joined the Conference North and a decade later were down in the NCEL, winning promotion back to the NPL in 2019-20, a further promotion followed last season to the NLN.
They have won the SHSC on 15 occasions, the most for any club, they reached the third round of the FA Cup in 1955-56 losing out to Swindon Town, they play at Sandy Lane and are nicknamed The Tigers.
