Emley are back in cup action on Saturday as we welcome Spennymoor Town to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a 2nd qualifying round tie (3pm).

It will be a first ever meeting between the clubs in their current guises, however, there were meetings between the previous iterations of the clubs, both clubs' recent history is a complex one.

After seeing the unbeaten away record consigned to history by a very good Bury side on Saturday, we now look to the FA Cup for comfort, however, with the realities of playing at step 3 now starting to bite, it's a tough ask for the Pewits against the Moor who are step 2.

Despite the fact that Spennymoor are currently bottom of National League North won't make it any easier for Emley, Spennymoor held Macclesfield to a 1-1 draw last weekend following 2 defeats to Hereford and Spalding respectively, they currently have 6 points from 9 games.

Emley have suffered back to back 4-0 defeats in the NPL Premier Division in recent weeks but came through a tough tie with Spennymoor's rivals Bishop Auckland in the 1st qualifying round, winning 2-0 in the North East after a 1-1 draw in West Yorkshire.

That win in Co.Durham was only win in the last 7 for Emley while Spennymoor have also only won 1 in their last 7 in all competitions.

This is the first meeting between Emley and Spennymoor Town but there were meetings between Emley and Spennymoor Utd and even the famous meeting in 1968 in the FA Amateur cup between Emley and Evenwood Town which launched Emley as a serious non league club.

WHO ARE THEY?
Spennymoor Town in their current guise were formed in 2005, but like Emley, they go way back to the early 20th century, Evenwood Town (1890) and Spennymoor United (1904) were both struggling at the turn of the 21st century, Spennymoor Utd and Evenwood then merged and became the Spennymoor Town of today.

They won the Northern League and promotion to the NPL in 2014, a further promotion saw them reach the National League North in 2017-18 where they have remained ever since, never finishing below 10th.

They have twice reached the FA Cup 1st round proper, losing to MK Dons in 2016 and then Barrow last season, they won the FA Vase at Wembley in 2013 by beating Tunbridge Wells in the final and played underneath the arch again in the FA Trophy final of 2013 losing to Aldershot.

They play at Brewery Field in Spennymoor, Co. Durham.
