Emley welcome the recently crowned Northern Premier League Division One Champions, Redcar Athletic to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday (3pm) looking to complete a league double over the runaway leaders.
It's the start of the final few weeks of the season and the first of 5 games which could decide whether Emley join Redcar in the Premier Division next season, with an away derby game at rivals Ossett United to follow on Easter Monday, it's a busy period for the stuttering Pewits.
Saturday's defeat at Lincoln Utd was Emley's second heartbreaking last minute defeat on the road in the last 4 games and means our winless streak is 3 games, only 4 points from a possible 15 have been collected in our last 5 games as the promotion chase hots up.
It was a similar tale last year and Emley will be hoping to take lessons from last year when our slump meant we almost missed the play offs altogether, no such problems for a Redcar side who have romped to the league title and a second successive promotion as champions.
Currently 21 points clear of second placed Matlock and 23 points ahead of Emley in third and with a goal difference of +98 with 5 still to play, Redcar have simply blown the league apart, winning 30 of their 37 games so far and scoring a remarkable 131 goals so far, not bad for a club who for the most part have played at steps 6 and 7, now they have just smashed step 4!
For Emley though, a chance to become the only team to do a league double over Redcar, Emley were the first team to beat them when a 2-0 scoreline was posted on the Cleveland coast in August, Emley are the only team to win and keep a clean sheet at the champions.
This will be only the second meeting, meaning that Emley are currently unbeaten against a side that has smashed allcomers in the last couple of seasons, another win would help Emley's own promotion push.
WHO ARE THEY?
Founded in 1993 as Teesside Athletic, the club played in the Teesside and then Wearside leagues initially before winning promotion to the Northern League in 2018 as Wearside champions. In 2021-22, like Emley, they were promoted to step 6 of the non league system via points per game (PPG).
They changed their name to Redcar Athletic in 2010, play at Green Lane on the edge of the town and are known as 'The Steelmen 'and won promotion to the Northern Premier League for the first time last season.
