Emley head to the coast on Tuesday night when we travel to Green Lane to face Redcar Athletic in the Northern Premier League- Premier Division (7.45pm).
It's almost a year to the day of the sides' first ever meeting that saw Emley come away with a 2-0 win, little did we know at the point in time it would be the only time Redcar would be beaten at home in 25-26, the last time they lost at home and the only time they didn't score at home, given Redcar then stormed the league with 105 points and goal difference of +102, including scoring 89 times at home, shows what a fine result it was. As it stands, Emley have never lost to or conceded to Redcar Athletic and not many can say that in the last 3 years!
Both clubs were promoted from D1 East last season, and Emley had the honour of not only being the only team to win at Green Lane last season but the only team the Steelemen couldn't score against, quite remarkable given Redcar's dominance of the league.
This is a new season though and both teams have started well, Emley have only lost once while Redcar remain unbeaten after 5 games of the new campaign, in fact, Redcar's remarkable rise up the pyramid has seen them unbeaten in 35 games.
Emley's latest point against one of the league favourites Ashton Utd came on Saturday after going behind, it was a 4th point picked up after going behind this season and we sit in 9th place with 8 points, Redcar are 4th with 11 points following a 5-0 thumping of last season's beaten play off finalist, Warrington Rylands at the weekend.
WHO ARE THEY:
Founded in 1993 as Teesside Athletic, the club played in the Teesside and then Wearside leagues initially before winning promotion to the Northern League in 2018 as Wearside champions.
In 2021-22, like Emley, they were promoted to step 6 of the non league system via points per game (PPG) they then won the Northern League D1 at the first time of asking and then powered their way to another promotion by dominating the NPL D1 East last season, and playing at step 3 for the first time only 3 years after promotion from step 6 and only 8 years since playing in the regional/county leagues.
They changed their name to Redcar Athletic in 2010, play at Green Lane on the edge of the town and are known as 'The Steelmen'..
