Preview: Redcar Athletic (A)

Martin Eastwood22 Aug - 09:00

We head North East to the coast for a first visit to Redcar.

Emley will make a first ever visit to Redcar on Saturday when we face Redcar Athletic in the NPL Division One East (3pm)

A first ever meeting of the sides following Redcar's promotion last season from the Northern League, both sides remain unbeaten in the league and both currently occupy play off places, although it's very early season.

Emley will be wanting to put the memory of last week's humbling in the FA Cup behind them and get going again in the league after the disappointment in Longridge, Redcar are still in the FA Cup following Wednesday night's 1-0 replay win over local rivals Guisborough Town after the sides played out a goalless draw last Saturday and also knocking out North Ferriby in the extra preliminary round.

It's a third successive away trip for the Pewits who drew 1-1 at Bradford Park Avenue to maintain an unbeaten start to our second season in NPL D1 East following our good maiden season last year, Athletic have also taken to this level with confidence so far, with 2 wins out of two, seeing off Blyth Spartans away on the opening weekend and Heaton Stannington away and have won 4 of their 5 games at this higher level so far.

The Steelmen have only lost once in 2025, that was the North Riding senior cup semi final against Scarborough, in all, only one defeat in 23 games so far in this calendar year, a remarkable record and one that Emley will hope to put paid to!

WHO ARE THEY:
Founded in 1993 as Teesside Athletic, the club played in the Teesside and then Wearside leagues initially before winning promotion to the Northern League in 2018 as Wearside champions. In 2021-22, like Emley, they were promoted to step 6 of the non league system via points per game (PPG).

They changed their name to Redcar Athletic in 2010, play at Green Lane on the edge of the town and are known as 'The Steelmen 'and won promotion to the Northern Premier League for the first time last season.

LAST TIME OUT:
Redcar Athletic 1-0 Guisborough Town, (Boyes), FAC Prelim. replay, Att- 620
Longridge Town 5-1 Emley (Barks), FAC Prelim, Att- 212.
