Derby day looms as Emley hope to get back to winning ways

Emley will be hoping for a break in the weather in the next few days as the big derby with South Yorkshire rivals Penistone Church is next up on Tuesday (3pm).

The high-flying Pewits haven’t tasted action since a 3-1 win over North Gawber in the county cup on the 6th of December, before that, the win at Thackley on the 3rd was the last time we saw league action with the weather putting pay to another local derby at Golcar last weekend.

Emley’s last home league game was the top of table clash with North Ferriby which attracted over 700 fans to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground at the end of November, the 3-1 defeat was only the 2nd league defeat of the season, both home and away to the league leaders North Ferriby.

Those defeats mean Emley, as well as the chasing pack are playing catch up on the Villagers from the banks of the Humber, Penistone, being one of those chasers in 7th place, Emley in 2nd lead the pack and will want to put some distance between themselves and their rivals.

There have been some dramatic and classic clashes between these rivals over the years, the first game this season at Penistone was no exception, a lacklustre Emley found themselves 1-2 down at half time but came out and blitzed Church in the 2nd period to take home the points with a stunning 5-2 win.

Penistone have found a bit of form now and are on a 4 match unbeaten league run and also progressed in the county cup at the expense of Parkgate and no doubt the Black and Whites will be eager to gain some revenge for that thumping in front of their own fans in October.
