Emley make the short trip to Ingfield to face local rivals Ossett United in a vital NPL Division One East clash (3pm) as the 2025/26 season winds up
Both sides are desperate for points for different reasons at either end of the league table, Emley are currently battling for a play off place at the top end, and a 0-0 draw with runaway champions Redcar Athletic saw Emley retain 3rd place whilst Ossett are scrapping to survive at the bottom and Saturday's 1-0 defeat to rock bottom Brighouse didn't help their cause.
Emley have a great record against United, winning all 3 games since our promotion 2 seasons ago with an aggregate of 8-1, but that will count for nothing on Monday as both teams fight for different reasons.
A Bailey Thompson hat trick saw off United in the reverse fixture on New Year's day, played in front of a bumper crowd of over 900, in the corresponding fixture at Ingfield last season, Emley thumped "The Ramicorns" 4-0 backed by a large and vocal support in a crowd of just sort of 800.
There will hopefully be another good turnout of Pewits fans despite a slump in form that has seen us pick up just 2 points from the last 12 available, and won only 1 of our last 4 away games, Ossett though have struggled for form themselves, especially at home, only 1 home win from their previous 8 league games and only 1 win in their previous 9 and they have only picked up 1 point from the last 12 available.
So both sides will be desperate to turn around their slumps and pick up 3 crucial points which could determine which league either of us play in next season!
WHO ARE THEY?
Ossett United are a result of a merger between the town's two sides, Ossett Town and Ossett Albion, the merger took place on June 1st 2018, despite both Ossett clubs being regulars in the NPL on their own steam and were initially successful, taking both Town and Albion's place in the NPL D1 East, they finished 5th and qualified for the 2018-19 NPL Play offs, losing out to Pontefract Collieries, they were then transferred to NPL D1 West where they struggled, finishing 3rd from bottom, then bottom during the pandemic seasons.
Transferred back to D1 East in 2021-22, they have finished 9th, 15th and 16th since, their best FA Cup performance was in 2019-20 where they lost to Colne in a 2nd qualifying round replay, they are nicknamed The Ramicorns or Sheepicorns and play at Ingfield which was Ossett Town's home from 1957, in the centre of town.
