Top 4 clash as the Gladiators enter the arena!

Emley welcome Matlock Town to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for the first time in 30 years in a top of the table NPL D1 East clash on Tuesday evening. (7.45).

A 3-2 Emley win in front of just 167 in the NPL Premier Division in October 1995 was the last time a Matlock side had visited Emley (there was two meetings in 2004 between the old club and Matlock).

With Matlock third and Emley fourth in the Division One East table, it's a real chance for either side to put some space between themselves and the other play off contenders and also to reduce the 4 point gap to leaders Redcar Athletic.

Emley's unbeaten run stretched to 5 games following the 3-0 win over Ashington, a game that also saw us claim a third straight clean sheet, Matlock's 8 game unbeaten league run came to an end in a 2-1 defeat away at North Ferriby .

This is Matlock's first season at this level for over 20 years following relegation last season having only spent 8 season at this level in the previous 5 decades.

WHO ARE THEY?
The club was established in 1878 as Matlock Football Club and changed their name to Matlock Town in 1946 and played in the old Midland League, where they were twice champions, before joining the Northern Premier League in 1969, staying in the top division but failing to ever win the league.

Matlock were relegated to Division One in 1996, before earning promotion back 8 years later where they had stayed until a second relegation back to D1 last season. Winners of the FA Trophy in 1974-75, they made it to the third round of the FA Cup in 1977, beating Wigan Athletic and Mansfield Town before bowing out 1-5 at Carlisle Utd.

They play at Causeway Lane in the town and are nicknamed The Gladiators.
