A night at the Blues in Staffordshire next.

After picking up a first home win of the season, Emley head to Staffordshire on Tuesday (7.45pm) to face Leek Town in the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League, hoping to pick up a first away win.

It will be a first meeting of the sides for 21 years since a 0-0 draw at Harrison Park in April 2005 under the Wakefield-Emley moniker.

Following promotion last season, Emley have won, drawn and lost each of their 3 games so far while Leek have drawn and lost 2 of their first 3, Friday night's 2-1 win over Curzon Ashton was the first home win in the NPL Premier for 21 years but that was at Wakefield, the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground last saw an Emley win in the NPL Premier 26 years ago when Bishop Auckland were beaten 2-0.

Leek's last win over Emley was in April 1997, a 3-2 win at the Welfare Ground on their way to winning the league, and their last win on their home turf was 3 years earlier in April 1994, the sides met fairly regularly in the 1990's including a memorable 5-5 draw at Emley in 1992.

While Emley were promoted to the Premier Division from D1 East last season, Leek just missed out on the play offs to National League North, finishing strong with 7 wins from their last 8 games but missed out on the play offs by 1 point in the end, this is Leek's 3rd season at this level following promotion from D1 West as champions in 2023-24.

Emley drew at Hyde on the opening Saturday and then suffered a 2--1 defeat to Ilkeston in our home opener but followed that up with a 2-1 win over relegated Curzon on Friday, Leek lost at home to Whitby Town and then followed up with 1-1 draws at FC United and Stockton.

WHO ARE THEY?
Leek Town were founded in 1946, although football had been played in the town since 1876, the club played in the local county leagues before becoming a founder member of the North West Counties League in 1982, they earned promotion to the NPL in 1987.

10 years later they were promoted to the Conference (now National League) as NPL Champions, including the aforementioned nail biting 3-2 win at Emley that saw them more or less claim the title, they finished 19th and 21st and were relegated back to the NPL and suffered a further relegation back to NPL D1 in 2002, another promotion and then relegation followed before Leek settled in the second tier of the NPL until their promotion back 3 seasons ago.

Leek reached the FA Trophy final in 1990 but lost 3-0 to Barrow at Wembley, in 1993-94 they beat Emley on their way to their only appearance in the FA Cup proper, eventually losing to Wigan Athletic after a 1st round replay, they play at Harrison Park, which is known as the F Ball community stadium just outside the town centre.
