It's a West Yorkshire derby at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Bank Holiday Monday as Emley welcome Guiseley in a Northern Premier League- Premier Division clash (3pm).

It's a first meeting for 21 years when Emley were playing as Wakefield-Emley but the first meeting at the Welfare Ground since a NPL League cup tie in February 2000 and a first league meeting at Emley since 1999. However, the sides were regular opponents at the end of the last century.

Of course, both clubs took very different paths at the start of the century, with Emley moving to Wakefield where the course of history was changed and missing out on a place in the Conference (National League) in 2001, Guiseley pushed on and reached the National League and National League North and enjoyed numerous FA Cup runs , two FA Vase finals in succession and runs deep into the FA Trophy.

But following Emley's promotion last season, we finally meet again. Guiseley suffered their second defeat of the season on Friday, beaten 3-1 at home by Lancaster City, in addition to a opening day 2-1 defeat by Emley's opponents on Saturday in Warrington Town, they have won 4 and drawn 1 of their other 7 games so far, those 4 wins include a last minute winner against league title favourites Bury.

Following Saturday's draw at Warrington Town, Emley have won 2, drawn 4 and lost only to Ilkeston Town on our return to the NPL Premier after a 21 year absence and currently occupy the mid table slot of 11th.

WHO ARE THEY?
Founded 6 years after Emley in 1909, they initially played in the Wharfedale league and then the West Riding league, they joined the Yorkshire league where they would first meet Emley in 1969, then became founder members, with Emley of the NCEL in 1982, winning promotion to the NPL in 1991-92 which was a very good period for The Lions

With Frank Worthington in their ranks, they appeared in 3 successive FA Vase semi finals between 1990-92 losing the first to Bridlington Town but getting to Wembley the next 2 seasons, a 4-4 draw with Gresley saw Guiseley clinch the deal with a 3-1 replay win at Bramall Lane, they were at Wembley again the next year but failed to retain the ase, losing 3-5 to Wimborne Town. That was their last ever appearance in the FA Vase.

Success was also had in both the FA Cup and FA trophy, making the first round proper on 10 occasions, a Trophy semi final in 93-94 saw them lose out to Runcorn and they also made the quarter final in 2011 losing to Luton Town, they are nicknamed The Lions and play at Nethermoor Park.
