Emley will travel to Grimsby Borough to start their 2024-25 in the Northern Premier League Division 1 East on Saturday (3pm) as we start our league season with 2 away trips.
It will be the first time an Emley team have kicked off an NPL season since 2001-02, a season in which Emley finished 5th in the Premier Division, 3 points above Accrington Stanley before the Wakefield name was added.
Emley and Grimsby Borough have been regular opponents throughout Emley's 17 year stint in the Northern Counties East League, the last meeting being a 0-0 draw in April 2022 as Grimsby celebrated their title winning season with the last Emley win coming in January 2017.
Grimsby Borough were formed in 2003 following the demise of a previous club in 1992 and joined the Lincolnshire league then the Central Midlands league before promotion to the NCEL in 2008, they struggled originally in division 1, failing to finish above 13th in their first 8 seasons but then found something to finish 4th, 3rd and then eventually league champions and promotion to the NCEL Premier, following 2 abandoned seasons, they then won the NCEL Premier and won promotion to the NPL, where they have finished mid table in their 2 seasons at step 4 so far.
Emley's season started with a win, 1-0 over FC St Helens in the FA Cup extra preliminary round last Sunday and will look to their travelling support to spur them on to a win in their first season back in the NPL while "The Wilderness boys" also secured their passage to the preliminary round with a 3-0 win over Oadby Town
