It's a derby day with a difference as Emley are crowned champions!

Emley face Golcar United in the Huddersfield derby in what is the final home league game of this successful season on Saturday (3pm).

The usual local bragging rights and pride for the supporters will be overtaken by the immense pride and joy of seeing the champion Pewits lift the NCEL Premier Division title at home and against the town rivals.

There's still league points up for grabs but apart from extending Emley's winning margin over 2nd place and Golcar looking to beat their 9th place finish from last season the points aren't that important in terms of deciding the honours etc.

Emley confirmed themselves as champions at Goole last Saturday, with a 5-0 hammering completing 3 successive and impressive wins to seal the title, that was followed by a defeat to Rossington in an understandably below par performance.

Golcar have been on a decent run of form and dragged themselves to within reach of a play off spot, a 9 game unbeaten run which included a 5-2 thrashing of Emley's title rivals Campion put them as high as 7th, but 2 defeats in their last 2 at home to the Sheffield duo of Handsworth and Hallam have seen them slip down to 11th with only a slim hope of making the top 6.

The teams have met 5 times competitively since Golcar's rise to the semi pro ranks 5 years ago, with Emley winning the last encounter at Golcar, there have been 3 draws, including last season's epic league cup semi final penalty shoot out and Golcar won the first meeting, although the season was declared void due to covid pandemic and the records and therefore the result was expunged.

Golcar, as always will have a few familiar faces in their squad, several ex Pewits now wear the green of Golcar including top scorer George Doyle and keeper Sam Kelly and not doubt they'll receive a warm welcome from the Emley fans.

Emley will be hoping for another big crowd to push them on to a final home victory and then see the newly crowned NCEL Champions receive their trophy and medals before we end the league campaign with a trip to Pickering next Tuesday.

Last time out:
NCELP- Emley 0-1 Rossington, Att- 390
NCELP- Golcar 0-2 Hallam, Att -411
