We welcome Trinity, needing the three points!

Gainsborough Trinity are the visitors to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday as Emley look for vital points in the Northern Premier-Premier Division (3pm).

Match Sponsor: Gallagher

Following Tuesday night's abandoned fog-bound game with Bamber Bridge which saw a poor 45 minutes where Emley found themselves 3-0 down to a team below them in the league, other results meant Emley dropped into the relegation zone, an improvement is certainly needed, but will be far from easy against a Gainsborough side which thrashed Whitby 6-2 on Tuesday.

Emley's form is concerning now, a 6-0 win in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup against Brodsworth and a 2-0 win against Bishop Auckland in an FA Cup replay are our only wins since August, it's now 7 league games without a win including 4 heavy defeats , we are also out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy following heavy defeats.

Gainsborough are mid table but are fairly comfortable at this level, having finished no lower than 8th in their last 4 seasons including 2 play off appearances, they have won 5 of their 10 league games and their last league defeat came at high-flying Avro a month ago.

The sides have been regular opponents over the years but this will be the first meeting since 2004 when Emley played under the Wakefield-Emley name.

WHO ARE THEY?
Gainsborough Trinity were founded way back in 1873 by the Reverend George Langton Hodgkinson, vicar of Holy Trinity parish Gainsborough. They played in the Midlands League and won promotion to Div 2 of the Football League in 1896 but struggled and were demoted back to the ML in 1912.

They became founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968 and re-applied for election back to the football league twice in the 1970s. They won promotion to the Conference North in 2004 but were relegated back to NPL in 2018 where they have remained.

They have a good FA Cup pedigree, making the first and second rounds numerous times and made it to the second round 2 seasons ago where they lost to Harrogate Town in a televised tie. They made the semi final of the FA Trophy in 2013 losing to Wrexham. They play at Northolme in the Lincolnshire town and are nicknamed "Trinity" or "The Holy Blues".
