Preview: Emley AFC v Silsden

Martin Eastwood6 Aug - 09:00

New season underway with a Friday night West Yorkshire derby.

The 2025/26 Northern Premier League Division One East kicks off this Friday night at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground as Emley host Silsden AFC (19:45pm).

It’s a West Yorkshire derby and a clash of the last 2 champions of the Northern Counties East League, Silsden finished 9 points clear of Hallam and lost only 4 league games to replicate Emley’s success the previous season.

Both teams will look to get off to a decent start in what is sure to be another competitive NPL D1 East season, Emley exceeded all expectations last season by not only staying up but by being competitive and eventually securing a play off spot, Silsden will fancy their chances of doing the same in their first ever season at step 4 of the National League system (non-league) which equates to level 8 on the English football pyramid.

Formed in 1904, Silsden and played in the West Riding Count Amateur League, before making the step up to the NWCL, Silsden played in the NWCL until 2019 when they were moved laterally to the NCEL where they spent 6 seasons before promotion last year. They are known as The Cobbydalers and play at Keighley Road.

This will be the 7th competitive meeting between the sides with 3 Emley wins, 2 for Silsden and a draw, the last contest was a 2-1 win for Silsden in March 2024 as Emley looked to clinch the NCEL title.

Emley’s last competitive outing was a 1-0 defeat in the play off semi final at Dunston, Silsden’s was a 3-2 defeat to Beverley Town in the NCEL league cup semi-final.

Looking forward to seeing you all there on Friday evening.
