Following Tuesday’s thrilling comeback against Penistone, Emley are back in action this bank holiday Monday when they make the trip to Bradford to face Eccleshill United for the first game of 2023 (3pm).

That draw and wins for other teams pushed Emley down to 5th on the NCEL Premier Division table, although the Pewits still have 2 games in hand and with a better goal difference than all but 1 of their challengers.

With things becoming more congested at the top of the table, North Ferriby, the leaders are currently 11 points clear at the top, the race is on for the 2nd possible promotion spot, there’s just 1 point between Winterton in 2nd and Emley so all points are crucial.

Eccleshill occupy 12th place, but The Eagles did the double over Emley last year, thumping The Pewits 5-1 at Emley and then coming out 2-1 victors at Wrose in a game probably best remembered for the foggy conditions which meant very limited visibility.

Eccleshill finished 2nd last season and missed out on promotion losing to Bedfordshire based Kempston Rovers in an inter step play off.

Form wise, Eccleshill have lost their last 2 league games, going down 3-2 at Knaresborough after leading 2-0 at half time and going down 2-0 at home to Thackley in the North Bradford derby on Tuesday.

Emley’s 4-4 draw made it 4 games unbeaten in all competitions.
