Preview: Dunston (A) Play-off Semi Final

Martin Eastwood28 Apr - 18:32

Big night in the north east as Pewits hunt final chance

Emley head to Dunston on Tuesday night (7.45pm) in the Northern Premier League Division One East play-off semi final hoping to extend their season even further to Saturday's promotion decider.

After a terrific first season following promotion, Richard Tracey's men have been right up in the top echelons all season but looked like missing out on the play offs altogether following a bad end of season run of form, but Saturday's do or die match against Consett to book a play-off place at the final week of the season party, saw the Pewits do and they need to do the do again now.

Now they have a chance to make the promotion final on Saturday against either Belper or Stocksbridge away, of course, those were our last two opponents away from home where we lost both games 2-0, our previous visit to Dunston ended up as a 3-0 defeat, a defeat that seemed to trigger the dismal run of form.

But Emley can certainly hold their heads high as they finished a very creditable 5th following promotion, Dunston, along with champions Cleethorpes were the pre season favourites and finished second, but like Emley, lost two of their final four fixtures.

This will be the fourth meeting of the season and the record stands at one win each and a draw, Emley winning an FA Trophy tie back in September, a 2-2 draw at Emley in the league and that 3-0 win for Dunston in early March, Emley's away record going into that game was impressive, only 3 defeats before that game but sadly, we have lost all but one of our away matches since, the Emley fans making the trek up the M1 will be hoping Tuesday is the night to break that record!
