It's a second home game of the week for Emley as we welcome Curzon Ashton to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Friday for a NPL Premier Division clash under the lights (7.45pm).

Following our home opener on Tuesday against Ilkeston, it's a second home game in 4 days as promoted Emley face relegated Curzon, it will be only the 6th meeting between the teams and the first meeting for 35 years since a 0-0 draw in the NPL Division 1 in March 1991.

Out of the 5 meetings so far, Emley have won 2 and there have been 3 draws, Curzon have never beaten Emley, so let's hope that record stays intact for a while longer. The sides were 2 leagues apart last season but following Emley's promotion from NPL D1 East and Curzon's relegation from National League North, we finally meet again after 35 years.

Emley started the season off how we finished the last one, with a clean sheet, away at Hyde on Saturday in a strong defensive performance to earn our first point of the season but we were defeated by Ilkeston in our first home game, while Curzon picked up all 3 points at home to fellow relegated outfit Alfreton Town on Saturday before a 3-2 defeat at Bury on Tuesday.

WHO ARE THEY?
Curzon Ashton were founded in 1963 after the merger of two clubs, Curzon Road Methodists F.C. and Ashton Amateurs F.C., who played in the Manchester Amateur Football League. The amalgamated club's name was originally Curzon Amateurs before being changed to the current name.

They played in the Manchester league, then the Cheshire league before becoming founder members of the NWCFL in 1982 before promotion the new NPL Division 1 in 1988, 10 years later they were relegated to the NCEL before switching back to the NWCL, promotion back to the NPL D1 was achieved in 2007 and the club then found themselves in National League North in 2015 following successive promotions, they remained at step 2 until last season's relegation agonisingly on the last day of the season on goal difference along with Alfreton, who they drew with on the final day.

They play at Tameside Stadium in Ashton-Under-Lyne, which is known for having a statue of 3 world cup winners who were all born or raised in Ashton, Sir Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Armfield OBE and Simone Perrotta!.
