Last chance saloon for play off chasing Pewits

It's do or die for Emley when the final league game of the Northern Premier League Division One East season sees Consett visit the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday (3pm) with Emley knowing one more win could put them in the play offs.

Emley are currently 6th, one place outside the play offs following a miserable run of form which has seen them slip from 2nd to 6th and out of the play offs for the first time this season but they still have a chance of getting into the top 5.

Emley must better the results of the 3 teams above them, although a draw for Emley and defeat for Belper at Bridlington would put the Pewits above Belper on goal difference, with only 3 wins from the last 10, it's a tall order for Richard Tracey's men, but then so was the season, after being promoted last year, whatever happens, it's been another season to remember for Emley.

Consett have nothing to play for but pride, and a chance to overturn a 4-0 thumping at their belle view home back in August as Emley ran riot on their way to topping the early league table, that big win for Emley was the first and so far previous only meeting between the sides.

Consett, nicknamed 'The Steelmen' were founded in 1899 and have a rich history, they were founder members of the North East league in 1922 and also played in the Midlands, Northern Counties and Northern leagues until promotion to the NPL 2 years ago, securing 3 mid table finishes so far, they actually applied to join the football league in 1946-47.

They have reached the first round proper of the FA Cup twice, in 1958-59 losing to Doncaster Rovers then in 1996-97 losing out to Mansfield Town, they were also FA Vase runners-up in 2019-20, losing 3-2 to fellow North Easterners Hebburn Town at Wembley.

Consett come into the game off the back of 3 without defeat following 3 previous successive defeats, two of them to relegated Sheffield and Brighouse, Emley's defeat at Stocksbridge on Easter Monday pushed the Pewits out of the top 5 for the first time since the opening day, and with 4 teams playing off for the remaining 3 play off spots, it could be a nerve wracking afternoon at the Welfare Ground!

Last time out:
Stocksbridge PS 2-0 Emley, NPL D1 E, Att- 423
Consett 0-0 Bishop Auckland, NPL D1 E, Att- 402
