It will be the first ever competitive meeting and Emley's first ever visit to Gigg Lane, which of course was a football league ground for 125 before Bury's dramatic demise, despite that though, at this level, Bury are a huge club and a huge scalp for anyone who beats them.

Emley will possibly fancy their chances, Wednesday night's 2-0 win in the FA Cup replay at Bishop Auckland maintained the Pewits' unbeaten start to the season away from home, both our defeats have come at home, however, will the midweek trek to the North East have an adverse effect on Emley or will the game-time prove to be a bonus?

Time will tell, despite being the bookies' clear favourites to win the league and continue their quest to retain their EFL status, they haven't had things their own way, 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats so far for the Shakers, who were promoted from NPL D1 West, however, only one of those defeats came at Gigg Lane, to Lancaster City.

They seemed to have 'shaken' that off somewhat, their last two games at home have been 7-0 and 8-0 wins over Ilkeston and Wythenshawe respectively, Emley will know that the defence needs to be on top of their game from the start!

Emley are currently 14th in the table following our promotion from NPL D1 East, with 2 wins, 4 draws and those 2 home defeats earning us 10 points so far, our last 2 league outings away from home ended in draws, Bury are currently 6th with 14 points after 8 games.

This, of course is our first ever competitive meeting and our first ever visit to Gigg Lane, although we did meet in a friendly at Emley 2 years ago.

WHO ARE THEY?
Bury FC were formed in 1885 at The White Horse in Bury (something Emley has in common then!), they were founder members of the Lancashire League and were elected to the Football League in 1894, they won the FA Cup twice at the turn of the 20th century and were league cup semi finalists in 1962-63.

Their long run in the EFL came to an end in 2019 with financial mismanagement ruining the club, this expulsion then created a complicated recent history, a phoenix club, Bury AFC were formed, which created a split in the fanbase, as the original club were still alive but without a ground or league to play in, this club played for 3 seasons in the NWC before both parties agreed to merge, AFC had a team but no ground, FC had a ground once they got Gigg Lane back but no team, so sense prevailed.

And so in 2023, Bury FC began their quest to rise back up the leagues, with 2 promotions already in their bag, they are on course to achieve that, the club plays at the 12,000 capacity Gigg Lane in the town.

HOW DO WE GET THERE?
M62 to J17, follow Bury (A56) through Whitefield, pass the Swan & Cemetery on your left, then turn right into Gigg Lane just after the Bury FC sign opposite the bus stop.

Alternatively, M62 to J18, then M66 to J2, turn left onto Rochdale Road (A58) then left at junction into Heywood St, keep on this road until the crossroads then left into Market St, then right into Gigg Lane in front of the cemetery.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There are no metrolink trams running from Manchester to Bury due to track upgrade works, trams are only running as far as Crumpsall, there are buses from Manchester which take around 40-50 minutes to Bury.

PARKING
Parking: The on-site car park at Gigg Lane will be open from 12:30pm on matchdays with remaining spaces charged at £5 per car and available on a first-come, first-served basis. This will be CASH ONLY on the day, and we would ask that were possible you have correct money. No movement is allowed on the car park until 15 minutes after the final whistle to allow the safe exit of supporters.

For all other supporters accessing Gigg Lane by car on matchdays, parking will be available in the residential areas surrounding the ground. Supporters are requested to be considerate of local residents when doing so and to be aware of areas where parking permits are in implemented.
