Emley host Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night in the Northern Premier League-Premier Division (7.45pm) with both clubs looking to pick up some valuable league points.
It's the first meeting since March 2005 when we were under the Wakefield-Emley tag and the first meeting at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground since March 2000 when Emley won 3-0.
Both teams are on a poor run of form in the bottom half of the table and are looking to pull themselves up the table, Emley's latest defeat, a 4-1 defeat at Warrington Rylands on Saturday was in no way reflective of the game in which Emley were more than a match for their hosts who were just far more clinical.
That defeat, made it the 6th out of 7 with the only win coming in the county cup, Emley have drawn 3 and lost 4 out of our last 7 league fixtures, our last win was away at Leek in August, since that win, we have only won 2 out of our last 11 in all competitions. Sadly, that defeat means that Emley have now conceded 4 or more goals in each of our last 4 Saturday games!
Bamber Bridge are 1 point and 3 places below Emley in 19th which is just inside the relegation zone, they had a torrid start to the season, winning only once in their first 9 games before beating Alfreton, since that win on September 12th, 'Brig' have lost their last 3 and conceded 4 or more in every game.
Only second from bottom Ilkeston have a worse goal difference than Emley and Bamber Bridge. Both teams have won twice, but Brig have lost a game more.
Emley have the upper hand in this fixture which was a regular fixture for 10 years in the mid 90's to mid 00's, there have been 17 previous meetings with Emley winning 10, 3 draws and 4 wins for Bamber Bridge in that time, hopefully another Emley win this time will see the losing run broken?
WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1952 and playing in local Preston leagues, they moved up to the NWCL in 1990, 3 promotions followed and by 1995 they were playing in the NPL where they would first meet Emley, remarkably, they won the NPL in their first season but failed to get promoted to Conference North due to the ground not meeting standards.
For the last 30 years, they have yo-yoed between NPL Premier and D1, last winning promotion in 2018 and made the promotion play offs in 22-23 losing out to Warrington Town in the final. They got the 2nd round proper of the 1999-00 FA Cup before losing to Cambridge Utd and made the semi final of the FA Vase in their first foray, losing to Wimborne Town in 1992.
They play at Irongate in the town of Bamber Bridge, near Preston which they have played at since 1987 and are nicknamed "Brig".
