Emley welcome Ashington to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm) hoping to cement our place in the top 4.

Wednesday's last gasp win at West Yorkshire rivals Brighouse Town saw Emley's four match unbeaten run maintain 4th place in the table, we have still only lost once in the league and only once in the last seven games in all competitions.

Our visitors are just below mid table in 14th place, however, last week's defeat to Bradford PA halted a run of 3 successive wins over Ossett, Hallam and Silsden. This will be only the third meeting between the sides, both clubs won their respective home league fixtures last season which were both played in March of this year.

WHO ARE THEY?
Ashington AFC were formed in 1883 and the club have played in a number of local and regional leagues, including the Northern Alliance, the East Northumberland League, the North Eastern League, the Midland League, Wearside League and the North Regional League. They were a founding member of the Football League Third Division North in 1921 and are the northernmost team to have played in the Football League.

The club were later founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968 and had been in the Northern League since 1970, they won promotion back to the NPL in 2022-23, beating Glossop in an inter league play off and play at Woodhorn Lane.

Ashington, of course, is famous for producing sports stars, both the Charlton brothers, Jack and Bobby are from the town as is their famous Uncle Jackie Milburn as well as international cricketers, Steve Harmison and Mark Wood amongst many others.

Interesting fact: Emley face Ashington on October 11th on what would have been Sir Bobby Charlton's 88th birthday.
