Preview: Alfreton Town (A)

Pewits head South to North Street.

It's another away day for Emley as we head to Derbyshire to face Alfreton Town in the Northern Premier League- Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

The Pewits head into the clash with bit of confidence having won 2 and drawn 1 of our last 3 league matches as we put an end to a wretched run of 6 straight defeats and 9 league games without a win to move ourselves out of the relegation places.

Emley's poor form had seen us exit both the FA Cup and FA Trophy after heavy defeats and also slipped down the table into the bottom 4 of the league, but 7 points from the last 9 available has seen us move up to 14th in the table, we also exited the county cup last week against a strong Worksop side.

Alfreton dropped down from National League North last season, the first time they've played this low down the pyramid for 2 decades following a long stint at steps 1 and 2 and are currently 10th in the table just 3 points above Emley but they have won only 1 out of their last 5 league games.

Our last meeting came 3 years ago in an FA Cup 3rd qualifying round when the sides were 3 levels apart, Emley gave a brilliant account themselves but lost out narrowly 1-0, Alfreton made it all the way to the 2nd round proper before losing to Walsall, that was one of only 3 meetings this century with Alfreton winning all 3, Emley's last win in this fixture was way back in 1998!

WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1959 following a merger and taking the name of a previous club in the town which folded in 1927, Alfreton Town started in the Central Alliance before moving to the Midland League until 1982 when they, along with Emley were founder members of the NCEL and were promoted to NPL D1 as champions in 1987.

Relegation back to NCEL and promotion back to the NPL before becoming founder members of Conference North in 2004, after finishing 3rd in successive seasons, they were finally promoted to the Conference (National League) as champions in 2011 but were relegated back to step 2 4 years later where they remained until last season's relegation.

They reached the FA Cup 2nd round on 3 occasions losing to Scunthorpe, Leyton Orient and the aforementioned Walsall respectively, they are nicknamed The Reds and play at North Street , otherwise known as The Impact Arena.
