Let the games begin, as pre-season gets underway #FridayNightFriendlies

The countdown to Emley’s 2022-23 season is on as the pre-season warm up games are about to get underway with all home games to be played on Friday nights.

Emley overcame a slow start to their maiden NCEL Premier Division season last season but found their feet after Christmas to finish in a credible 9th in the table and will be looking to get off to a better start in this new season.

The warm up games, or friendlies begin in earnest this Friday night (7.45pm) when there’s a taste of what’s to come in the shape of a Huddersfield derby with newly promoted Golcar United providing the opposition as HD8 and HD7 also face each other in the league campaign, Golcar won promotion from step 6 by winning the play off in the NWCFL D1 North to bring the HD derby back, the sides were last in the same league in the abandoned 2019-20 season.

Golcar have had a substantial rise up the non-league pyramid, winning 2 promotions in 4 seasons after dominating the now defunct West Riding County league and will provide stern opposition for Emley, Golcar have, in the past fielded plenty of ex Pewits in their ranks.

Emley’s Friday night warm ups then continue with home fixtures against newly promoted to the NPL Premier, Liversedge (July 8th, 7.45pm) Stocksbridge ( July 15th, 7.45pm) and then against Wakefield (July 22nd, 7.45pm). Wakefield, who a new club with that name established in 2019, are also newly promoted, from the Sheffield and Hallamshire league to the NCEL Division 1, but they have some serious backers and some high hopes of going further.

All these will provide tough work outs for Richard Tracey’s men as well as two away trips to South Yorkshire, Emley travel to Barnsley to face Worsborough Bridge on Tuesday July 12th (7.45pm) and to Doncaster to face Rossington Main on Saturday 23rd July (3.00pm) before the season kicks off with a tasty looking tie away at promoted North Ferriby on Humberside a week later.

Admission prices for the home friendlies are £5 Adults and £2.50 Concessions U13s Free.
No season tickets are valid for pre-season friendlies.
