Longridge Town (H) Match Preview

Emley welcome the Ridge from across the Pennines for the first round of the FA Vase.

Emley welcome Longridge Town from Preston to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday for the first round proper of the FA Vase.

In the previous round, and a very nervy match it was, George Doyle scored what seemed like a late winner against Chadderton but the Reds (playing in lime/neon green) were awarded a penalty in virtually the last kick of the game to take the tie to a penalty shootout. The shootout went the way of the takers until Chadderton’s sixth spot kick hit the post. Young Hayden Webster kept his cool to duly dispatch his penalty and send Emley through.

Hoping to put recent league results behind them and extend their cup run, Emley will be looking to get a straight win this time and edge closer to the Wembley dream.

Our opponents, Longridge Town (or “the Ridge”, if you like), were established in 1996 following a merger between Longridge United and Longridge St Wilfrid’s. The club initially played in the Preston & District League before earning promotion to the West Lancashire League in 2007/08. In 2018/19, the Ridge were promoted to the North West Counties League and, in their first season, were crowned Division 1 Champions (while scoring an impressive 144 goals) to earn promotion to the NWCL Premier Division.

This will be the first time that Emley AFC and Longridge Town have met but, with Longridge currently sitting in 8th place in the NWCL, they will surely prove to be a tough test for the Pewits.
