Garforth Town (A) Preview and matchday information

Martin Eastwood3 Dec 2021 - 07:30

We are back on the road again...but not too far this time!

After their superb 7-0 win at home on Tuesday night, their first home league game in 3 and a half weeks, Emley are once again on their travels when they make the relatively short journey to North East Leeds to face Garforth Town in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division (3pm).

Tuesday’s hammering of Handsworth was Emley’s first win in 5 games in all competitions and pushed them further away from the sides at the bottom and moved them closer to the chasing pack for the play off spots.

Garforth meanwhile sit 2nd in the table and go into the game having not played since last Saturday, although the game against Maltby was abandoned due to an injury, their last completed game was on 20th November when they lost at home to AFC Mansfield.

Prior to that Mansfield game, they had gone on a tremendous 16 game unbeaten run which took in some big wins as well as progression in the League cup, Emley will be hoping to take their decent home form onto the road as they look to turn draws and close defeats into wins and make a push for the play off spots.

Although managed by Paul Marshall, there is a familiar face to older Emley fans on the Garforth bench, Michael Reynolds, better known as “jelly”, in his time at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground, Reynolds was a popular and important player for a number of years and was part of the successful Emley sides of the late 90’s who featured in some famous cup runs, he left in 1998, along with another favourite, Glynn Hurst to join Scottish professionals Ayr Utd.

It’s only the second meeting between the sides, the first was the 1-1 draw at Emley back in August.
