Emley AFC boss Richard Tracey shares his thoughts on recent results, previews the upcoming fixtures, and gives the latest squad updates.

Momentum is building! The Pewits take on Blyth Town this weekend after a strong 2–0 victory over Lincoln United. Manager Richard Tracey has praised his side’s attacking intent, but says there is still work to do in making their dominance count.

Reflecting on Tuesday's result, Tracey said: “I thought we played some really good football against Lincoln. We were on the front foot, got crosses into the box, and created more than we have done in recent weeks. It was pleasing to see us being braver going forward.

The frustration is that we didn’t kill the game off earlier, because we had chances. Their keeper made a couple of outstanding saves, and at 1–0 you always leave yourself vulnerable. Fortunately, Dec Lambton came up with some excellent stops to keep us ahead.

“If we’re going to start playing on the front foot like that, then we will create more opportunities. It’s just about having that bit of quality and composure in front of goal to make sure the performance gets the result it deserves.”

Goals from Manasse Mampala early on and Joe Stacey late in the match, sealing a victory that lifted us to 4th in the table.

Next up is Blyth Town, a first-ever meeting between the two sides and Emley’s first visit to Gateway Park on Saturday. Blyth have found form with back-to-back wins, including an impressive victory over Bishop Auckland.

Tracey expects a stern examination: “We know what it’s like when you go up north, you’re always in for a battle. Blyth will be organised, they’ll be physical, and they’ll fancy their chances after two good results. We’ve got to match that and then impose our own game.

“The lads are confident. We’ve started the season unbeaten, and the win at Lincoln gives us belief. But we can’t take anything for granted, every game in this league is a test, and we’ve got to be right at it again.”

Tracey confirms the addition of 21-year-old Youssef Chentouf, formerly of Wigan Athletic, Slough Town, Hendon and Royston Town. Comfortable as a winger, wing-back or right-back, Chentouf brings versatility and fresh energy.

On the club's new signing Tracey said: “Youssef’s an exciting player who’s had a really good grounding in the game. He’s quick, he’s direct, and he gives us another option out wide or down the right. We’ve been a little light in those areas, so bringing him in strengthens us.

“He’s hungry to prove himself and he wants to play at a good level. I think he’ll fit in well with the group and add to what we’ve already got.”

Tracey was also keen to stress clarity over squad news: “We’ve spoken to a few players in recent weeks but until someone signs, there’s nothing to say. With Youssef it’s different he’s in, he’s committed, and I think he can make a real impact for us.”

There was further positive news as midfielder Joe Clegg edges closer to full fitness, having got minutes on loan (to Horbury Town) to build sharpness.

Tracey commented: “Joe’s been working hard and getting games in. He’s an important player for us and it’s good to have him back in contention. The more options we have, the stronger we’ll be as the season goes on.”

With Blyth Town up next, Tracey’s message was clear: consistency and execution: “Performances have been good, but it’s about putting it together week in, week out. If we keep creating, keep defending with discipline, and take our chances, then we’ll keep picking up results. The lads know what’s required – now it’s about delivering it on the pitch.”
