Over the last two years, Emley Academy has grown from strength to strength. In February 2020 we announced the launch of the Emley AFC Academy set up with an U23 team, then last year we added U18s to the line up.

During Emley Academy’s first season they added some silverware to our collection at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground by securing the West Riding U23 Senior Cup.

With the end of the Academy season in the next few weeks, we are already looking ahead to the next and we unfortunately announce today that Academy Manager, Sam Sutton is stepping down due to other commitments in his role at Barnsley FC Academy. Sam’s coaching team of Peter Walker and Alex Overton will also exit for new opportunities. All three leave with our best wishes and a huge thank you for all their hard work and commitment over the last two years.

We are pleased to announce Sam’s successor is our current U18 manager Dom Webster, who will step up as the new Academy Manager, with Omar Sinclair taking up the role of U23s Assistant Manager (Omar has been part of Dom’s U18 management team for the last 12 months). Congratulations to both Dom and Omar.

Dom Webster, Emley Academy Manager said: “I would like to thank the club for placing the faith in myself and Omar to take the academy to the next level for the upcoming season. We have been lucky enough to work with a great team in Sam, Pete and Ovie who we wish all the best in their next steps. I am confident that we can continue to build and develop a successful academy programme at Emley AFC.”

Marcus Pound, Director of Football at Emley AFC said: “Huge thanks to Sam and his team for putting in the foundations of our Academy, which we will continue to build on with Dom and Omar. The Academy is essential to the growth of Emley AFC, with over 12 Academy players making the team sheet on the first team in 2021/22. We hope to see even more of this going forward. No pressure guys.”
