A game-ending injury to goal keeper Adam Lawlor put paid to any thoughts of a happy return to the dug out for Darren Hepworth.

With no ‘keeper on the bench Captain Paul Sykes donned the gloves for a second time this season. But unlike the few minutes between the sticks in the cup tie at Ossett, Sykes had to play more than an hour after Lawlor’s departure.

It was Emley however who had the best of the early play and some good deliveries from the left should have led to the goalkeeper being tested.
At the other end, the Emley defence protected their stand-in ‘keeper well - helped in their task by Bottesford long ball approach.

However, the tactic paid off in the end and a breakaway goal for the home side made it 1-0 at half-time.

Emley had the best of possession at the start of the second half but couldn’t make it pay.

After surviving a shout for a penalty, Bottesford made it two with a tap in whilst Antony Leech received treatment off the field.

Leech didn’t return to the action but Emley continued to try and play their way back into the game.

Sykes was called upon to make a good double save but was helpless for the third and fourth goals.
