But it was Teversal who found the back of the net first in this game, albeit to be ruled offside. After only three minutes, Greg Tobin played a ball over the advancing defence with Sykes attempted headed clearance falling to Dave Cockerill who carried the ball on before firing home. Emley could breathe a sigh of relief at the sight of the assistant’s flag.
Moments later at the other end, Alex Hallam was fouled by Liam Wild and Liam Schofield hit the free-kick up and over the wall and into the top corner to make it 1-0.
It was the home side who had the better of the possession, but Emley looked more threatening in front of goal and had they been more clinical the lead could have been increased.
An effort on 15 minutes saw Jordan Townend do superb down the right flank before picking out Hallam who had the time to control the ball before mis-hitting the effort that looped over everyone to hit the bar.
With the half drifting into the last five minutes Schofield picked up an Eli Mitchell clearance and produced another excellent strike from 30 yards that left Ryan Brooks in the Teversal goal stranded, but the bar came to the rescue again with the rebound going to safety.
The second half continued to be entertaining in the same vein as the first, with both sides producing some good football.
Teversal were pushing hard for the equaliser and saw a quick free-kick from Colin Cockerill in his own half finding his brother Dave who superbly controlled the ball and lifted the ball over the advancing Adam Lawlor but unfortunately for the home side it didn’t drop the right side of the net and ended up nestling on the roof of the net.
On 75 minutes the home side pulled level when Mark Robinson created space down the left before crossing. Dave Cockerill was at the near post to bundle the ball home to make it 1-1.
Emley took the lead with a move down the left. The cross avoided the home defence and Adam Todd was on hand to score on his debut from close range with 15 minutes remaining.
Whilst Teversal pushed for something from the game, captain Paul Sykes and Sam Jerome remained solid at the heart of the Emley defence to earn the three points.
