Club reporter Hish Riordan watches Emley fall to a 3-1 home defeat to Worsbrough.

Despite a valiant effort, unlucky Emley fell to a 3-1 defeat to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in what was an entertaining match.

It was a quiet opening 10 minutes for both sides, and the first real chance of the game didn’t come until the 14th minute, when Josh McKeegan went close for Worsborough. Emley had a great chance themselves minutes later, when Matty Waller made a run into the box, however nobody could get a shot off from this pass.

Worsbrough applied the most pressure throughout the first half, and went close again in the 25th and 37th minute, forcing good saves from Emley 'keeper Max Dearnley.

Tempers began to flair as the half came to a close, and Brad Duxbury & Chris Walton were both shown yellow cards.

Emley started the second half in spectacular fashion, scoring just one minute after kick off, when Jordan Townend found his way down the left and scored the rebound from his original shot that was saved by Rich Watson.

The home side could have gone 2-0 up minutes later when there was panic in the Worsbrough box but a defender managed to clear the ball near the goal line and put it out for a corner.

The away side managed to level the scores in the 65th minute from an own goal when Emley’s Duxbury put the ball in the back of his own net. This seemed to give the away side a new lease of life and they took the lead 8 minutes later, when Josh McKeegan put away their second of the game.

Things went from bad to worse for Emley when Tim Wallace went down with what looked to be a bad shoulder injury and had to be helped off the pitch.

Worsbrough put Emley under the cosh late on, forcing back to back great saves from Dearnley. The away side added a third goal late on, and tempers began to flair once more with players having to be separated. Emley pushed for a goal late on, however the away side held on for a 3-1 victory.
