AFC Emley terminated their winless run of 5 games with a emphatic 5-2 victory over bottom side Brigg Town, writes club reporter Ollie Mudd.

Play didn't seem to ignite until mid-way through the first half. Rhys Thomas found himself surrounded on the left flank, but shimmied beautifully past the despairing defenders to finish cooly inside the box.

This sprung a more adventurous few minutes for the home side. Matty Waller's mazy run offered him a sight on goal, his effort was tipped over but acted as a reminder of the threat Emley pose from the wide areas.

However Brigg were not to lie down, Owen Fletcher found space on the edge of the area to try and caress his effort around Max Dearnley. A shot that settled into the 'keepers safe hands

Moments later, young Brigg winger Ryan Thompson worked himself into an advantageous position outside the Emley box. He opted out of playing the striker through to try on goal himself, but dragged his low effort wide.

The game did not take so long to get into motion after the break. On 46 minutes Jordan Townend doubled the lead after breaking into the box and finishing with a patiently distributed effort.

Moments later Townend was causing trouble for Brigg's defence again, he put the ball on a plate for club top scorer Lewis Dickinson to slot into the net and put the home side 3-0 up.

Next up it was Tabby Magida's time to shine. A string of injuries meant he had the chance to prove himself in the starting 11, he got a brace within 10 minutes to see Emley over the hill and far away as he claimed the 4th and 5th goals - along with the Man of the Match award.

It was not all gloom for Brigg Town, in the final 15 minutes Cameron Houson bombed forward from defence and managed to claim his side a consolation. Followed by a goal from Ryan Thompson in the final attack of the game to make the score line 5-2.

This could prove to be the lift Joe Howson's men need after a stale string of autumn results. And despite injuries, Howson can rely on the depth of the squad to get the results needed to fuel momentum leading towards 2018.
