Scoreline is only half the tale from Emley's journey to south Sheffield

AFC Emley ran out 7-1 winners at NCEL newcomers Swallownest but it looked like being a much tighter affair after Emley hit the bar and missed a penalty whilst 2-1 up.

Emley were quickest out of the blocks with early chances for Michael Starkey and Luke Hill before Tim Wallace popped up to finish off the left overs from a Matty Waller corner on 10 minutes.

Swallownest grew into the game but couldn't turn possession into chances. Then some delightful interplay doubled the Emley advantage. Captain Aaron Joseph played the neatest of through balls for Alex Slack who calmly picked his spot to side foot home.

The hosts were awarded of flurry of free kicks around the Emley area and, on the stroke of half-time, Jordan Stocks hit the sweetest of them all into the top left corner and leaving 'keeper Harry Stead with no chance.

Emley started the second half like the first and hit the bar in a scramble shortly after the restart. Slack was generously adjudged to have been upended in the box but, when Luke Hill saw his penalty saved, it looked like Emley might be made to pay for wasted chances.

However the introduction of Lewis Dickinson and Tabby Magida - replacing an injured Luke Hill - galvanised Emley into a more attacking threat. From 2-1 on 70 minutes it was 7-1 at the final whistle with some ruthless finishing and expertly timed runs behind the defence.

Emley's 3rd and 4th were a mirror image of each other. Townend beat the offside trap on the right before squaring to Magida for a simple tap in. Then, down the left, Dickinson sprinted away from Swallownest's defenders - with their appealing arms aloft - to square for Magida. Less of a simple tap in, but the substitute finished neatly.

Magida was through on goal for his 3rd and Emley's 5th but unselfishly returned the favour to his fellow substitute and Dickinson found the net.

That generosity was repaid when Waller hit the woodwork and Magida mopped up to complete a 14 minute hat-trick.

Dickinson grabbed a second for himself in injury time to complete the second-half goal-fest.

The Hepworth Group Man of the Match was Tim Wallace with notable mentions for Jack Cooper and Aaron Joseph in midfield as well as the 20 minute cameo from Tabby Magida.

Emley are back on the road on Tuesday with a trip to Selby Town before hosting the FA Vase tie with Thornaby on Saturday.
